Job Summary and QualificationsPOSITION SUMMARY:Â Â
The Director of Traumaparticipatesas an active member of the leadership team in the Patient Care Division. This person directs the Trauma Department in collaboration with the Trauma Medical Director and continues to meet all department requirements and documentation tomaintainTrauma Center status, ACS Verificationand regulatory requirements for Traumaincluding those of The Joint Commission and the Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment.The Director of Trauma Administratively oversee andAssists the Trauma Medical Director with the scheduling,planningand conducting oftheMulti-Disciplinary Trauma Committee, Performance Improvement Committee, Trauma Peer Review,educationand business meetings for the Trauma Service. Develops andmaintainssystem for Peer-Review tracking and communication with loop closure to both hospital peer review and trauma department peer reviewand for QA tracking with loop closure and reporting to Hospital Performance Improvement Committee and Medical Executive Committee. In collaboration with the Trauma Medical Directordevelops, implements, monitors and as needed develops corrective action plans for Trauma Department specific performance improvement projects andmonitoredquality metrics to include hospital specific, regulatory and accreditationrequiredandpubliclyreported. The Director of Traumawill assure that the TraumaService andactivitiesare in compliance withACS guidelines, Joint Commission standards, Colorado Department of Health Standards, HCA guidelines, and the Medical Staff Bylaws and all applicable regulations. Demonstrates advanced knowledge and skills in the care of patients in designated areas; coordinates interdisciplinary rounds,communicationand care;andparticipateson hospital committees.Oversees all aspects of Trauma andmaintainsfiscal responsibility for programs. Assures that the Trauma activitiesare in compliance withACS guidelines, Joint Commission standards, Colorado Department of Health Standards, HCA guidelines, and the Medical StaffBylawsand all applicable regulations. Integrate current regional, national, and state indicators of trauma care and compliance into these activities on an ongoing basis.Responsible in collaboration with the Trauma Medical Director for the Trauma Multi-disciplinary Committee, PerformanceImprovementand Peer Review committee. Responsible for the development, coordination, and management of educational projects. These projects shall encompass, but not be limited to, inter and intra-facility, community and outreach programs relating to Trauma. Responsible for development and coordinationof:prevention programs, specific outreach educational offerings, development of trauma education programs,managementand coordination of scheduled conferences.In collaboration with the TraumamedicalDirector,is responsible forthe development, implementation, and compliance tracking of Trauma related policies and practice guidelines.Assists the Trauma Medical Director with physician relations including credentials, scheduling, and communication.Oversees the abstraction, input into the trauma registry, and evaluation of data related to the Trauma Program. Representsthe Sky Ridge Medical Center Trauma Service at state and local trauma meetings. Works collaboratively with the Trauma Department to fulfill the mission of the Trauma Service. Provides reports on all activities to the Trauma Medical Director. Supervise theTrauma Program Manager,Trauma Nurse Clinical Coordinator, and Trauma Nurse Registrar/Injury Prevention Coordinator.Â
Develops andmaintainssystems to promotehigh levelsof patient,employeeand physiciansatisfaction;as well as external customer satisfaction. In a collaborative manner, the positionis responsible forparticipation in the design, implementation, and evaluation ofnew programs, projects, and systems for the Trauma Program. Assumes24 hourdepartment accountability. Responsible for assuring adequate staffing andmaintainingappropriate productivitystandards. The trauma program director shall, at a minimum demonstrate the following qualifications:(1) Administrative ability,(2) Evidence of educational preparation,(3) Documented clinical experience, and(4) Accrue an average of 16 hours of verifiable, external trauma-related continuing education per year or48 hoursin the three years prior to the designation site review including no less than one national trauma meeting per three years, (5) Hold membership with national trauma organization and actively participate in regional trauma organizations.Â

Experience:Minimum of fiveyears of Emergency Department and/or Critical Care nursing with experience at a level I or II trauma center including experience in the care of the trauma patientrequired. Prior experience as a Trauma Coordinator or Trauma Program Manager in a Level I or Level II Trauma Center preferred. Experience in Quality Assurancedesired. Experience in developing and teaching education programsdesired. Â
Special Qualifications:Â Abilityto communicate effectively with patients, families, physicians, and other health care team members. Ability to manage a team and work with others within a team to ensure quality patient care. Strong critical thinking skills. Demonstrates good organizational skills, ability to teach or mentor in an effective manner, have clinical experience that enhances position, and ability to plan and provide for delivery of nursing services. Ability to assume responsibility for self-development.Must be able to analyze charts to evaluate patient care andreview forcompliance with trauma standards. Knowledge and experience with ICD-9 and AIS scoring tools is desirable. Â
