GRANT ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS:
MAAPET is funded as a whole or in part by the Department of Labor Nursing Expansion Grant. You must meet complete step 1 above to determine if you meet grant eligibility requirements or not, to participate in this program.
TRAINING PROGRAM REQUIREMENTS:
  • You must complete step 1 above to determine if you meet grant eligibility requirements in order participate in this program.
  • Milwaukee County resident.
  • Prior healthcare experience is required.
  • Ability to work full-time, 40 hours/week.
  • Availability to continue working as a medical assistant for 2+ years at Children's Wisconsin after completing the training program.
  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • TABE score equal to a 6th grade level in Reading & Math.
    • TABE (Test of Adult Basic Education) is essentially a placement test. All candidates interested in being considered for the program must take and pass the test with at least a 6th grade level in reading & math.

  • A passion for wanting to work in healthcare.
  • Willingness to learn and perform both blood draws and immunizations to pediatric patients.
  • Ability to work with a diverse patient population to promote a culturally competent environment.
  • Physical ability to lift and position patients weighing up to 75 pounds, as well as push and pull when performing cleaning functions.

TRAINING PROGRAM DETAILS:
  • Program Start Date: Monday 9/28/2026
  • 18 to 20 week, Full-time, 40 hours/week, Monday - Friday training program
  • Trainees receive foundational coursework and training for a Medical Assistant Certification.
  • Classroom training located in person at Employ Milwaukee
  • Clinical externship hours at a Children's Wisconsin clinic
  • Coursework and studying to be completed in addition to the classroom and externship work schedule.
  • Participants receive an hourly wage while training.
  • Laptop computers & necessary equipment will be loaned to you upon acceptance into the program.
