Job description

Join Our Team as an Operations Manager at Master Signs!

Are you a natural leader with a knack for organization and problem-solving? Do you thrive in a fast-paced, hands-on environment where no two days are the same? Master Signs, a custom sign company based in American Fork, Utah, is looking for a proactive and dependable Operations Manager to help drive our production and installation processes forward. If you're ready to take ownership of daily operations and contribute to a growing company, we want to hear from you!

About Master Signs

At Master Signs, we design, fabricate, and install a wide range of commercial signage for businesses throughout Utah and beyond. From channel letters and illuminated signs to vehicle graphics and custom metal fabrication, we pride ourselves on delivering high-quality, custom solutions for our clients. Much of our work is built in-house, requiring creativity, craftsmanship, and teamwork.

As a small but growing company, we offer a dynamic work environment where employees have the opportunity to learn multiple skills, work on diverse projects, and see their efforts come to life in the community.

What You'll Do as an Operations Manager

This is a hands-on management role where you'll oversee the workflow from the moment a job is sold through production, fabrication, and installation. You'll work closely with ownership, sales, design, and production teams to ensure projects are completed efficiently, on time, and to the highest quality standards.

Key Responsibilities

Production & Workflow Management - Manage daily production schedules and prioritize jobs based on deadlines and resources. - Assign tasks to production, fabrication, and installation teams, ensuring clear next steps for every project. - Monitor active jobs to identify and resolve bottlenecks. - Coordinate efforts across design, printing, fabrication, painting, and installation teams.

Employee Leadership - Lead and support the production, fabrication, and installation teams. - Set clear expectations for employees and hold them accountable for deadlines and quality. - Conduct regular production meetings and provide guidance to keep projects on track. - Foster a culture of responsibility, teamwork, and craftsmanship.

Project Management - Review new jobs to ensure all necessary details (drawings, materials, permits) are ready before fabrication begins. - Coordinate material orders and communicate with vendors and subcontractors. - Oversee installation schedules and ensure crews are prepared with all necessary tools and materials.

Quality Control - Review projects throughout production to ensure they meet specifications and quality standards. - Develop checklists and procedures to prevent mistakes and rework. - Work with employees to improve processes and maintain high-quality output.

Purchasing & Inventory - Order materials for upcoming projects and maintain appropriate inventory levels. - Reduce unnecessary expenses by optimizing purchasing options and minimizing waste.

Installation Coordination - Schedule and assign installations, ensuring crews have complete job information and necessary equipment. - Troubleshoot installation challenges and communicate updates to relevant parties.

Process Improvement - Continuously evaluate and improve workflows, scheduling, and communication. - Develop systems to reduce rework, wasted labor, and bottlenecks. - Help build a company that operates smoothly without relying on one person to manage every detail.

What We're Looking For

We’re seeking someone who is: - Highly organized and able to manage multiple projects simultaneously. - Dependable and proactive in identifying and solving problems. - Comfortable leading people and holding them accountable respectfully. - Mechanically minded with strong decision-making skills. - Detail-oriented without losing sight of the bigger picture. - Hands-on and willing to step in when needed.

Experience

While experience in the sign industry is helpful, it’s not required. We’re more interested in finding someone who can lead, organize, and take ownership. Relevant experience in the following industries is a plus: - Sign manufacturing - Construction management - Manufacturing - Metal fabrication - Project management - Cabinet or millwork shops - Welding/fabrication businesses - Commercial construction - Print or graphics production

Why Join Master Signs?

At Master Signs, we value creativity, craftsmanship, and teamwork. As a small and growing company, we offer a unique opportunity to make a meaningful impact. You'll work on diverse projects, develop new skills, and see the results of your efforts displayed throughout the community. If you're ready to take on a leadership role and help us build a company that runs efficiently and reliably, we’d love to hear from you.

How to Apply

If this sounds like the right fit for you, please send your resume along with a brief explanation of your previous management, production, construction, manufacturing, or operations experience. We’d also like to know: 1. How many people have you directly managed? 2. What type of production, construction, or project-management experience do you have? 3. How do you keep multiple projects from falling through the cracks? 4. Tell us about a time you improved a process or system at a previous company. 5. How do you handle an employee who repeatedly misses deadlines? 6. What does accountability mean to you as a manager? 7. Why are you interested in working for a small, growing company?
