Job description


1. Reports to: Area Operations Manager
2. Direct reports to him/her:
• Mine Production Manager
• Plant Production Manager
• Maintenance Manager
• Process Engineer
3. Functional relationship:
• Regional Functional Departments including Capital Projects, Finance, Maintenance, Quality, and
Logistics
• Peers within mid-level management positions in North America
• Carmeuse Engineering and Technical Group
• Corporate Functional Departments
• CLS Operational and Leadership Team(s)
4. Responsibilities
• Create and sustain a zero-injury culture, monitor effectiveness, and make changes to sustain.
• Provide leadership and ensure all company and Mine Safety and Health Administration rules and
regulations are observed and practiced by employees. This includes planning the necessary resources and
budgeting to accomplish site safety goals and administer safety initiatives
• Monitor and ensure environmental compliance and housekeeping standards are met
• Interface with regulatory agencies as required
• Maintains community relations
• Develop and execute site plans for the implementation of company initiatives
• Ensure quality of product and adjust production plans to meet customer requirements
• Understand, manage and follow the collective bargaining agreement.
• Implement training plans to provide employees with the necessary training to perform their job safely and
effectively
• Drive site performance through effective use of management principles, consistent processes, including
continuous improvement and non-conformance resolution, Management of Change (MOC), and Root
Cause Analysis (RCA)
• Monitor, maintain and manage the Industrial Plan including prioritization of capital projects, work and
implementation.
• Routinely monitor key performance indicators identifying opportunities for improvement and making appropriate supervisory and management personnel aware, making plans to improve and then executing these plans. • Manage overtime requirements to meet sales, production and maintenance requirements • Ensure the execution of daily production plans. Explains significant variances from the plan and provides leadership to improve. • Monitor workload to evaluate, recommend and implement proper staffing levels • Monitor costs and implement cost reduction projects which are consistent with the budget and business plans, quality requirements, and available resources • Drive the formulation of business plans and budgets, and the achievement of approved goals and objectives • Support development of personal and professional direct reports

• The Site Operations Manager has responsibility for overall site management
• Performance of site employees
• Must interpret policies, procedures and goals of the organization for subordinates. Responsible for
subordinates' performance
• SAP requisition approvals, staff leaves of absence, expense reports, and headcount adjustment
authorizations.
6. Key performance indicators
• Through leadership, drive a safety and continuous improvement culture
• Safety, Environmental, Governmental and Legislative compliance
• Operating and capital spending compared to budget; as approved annually
• Lime, Stone Production, Fuel Ratios, Gas Usage, Overtime, etc. targets and site maintenance reliability
• Successful management of assigned employees. Lead site group to greater efficiency through his/her
team members
• Optimize processes, spending, cost management and customer satisfaction
• Meet or exceed agreed goals and targets on a consistent basis
• Follow standard procedures and implement consistent processes.
• Staff to achieve maximum performance. Promote growth, development, succession planning and
strategic workforce planning (where applicable). Also responsible for administering; Personal
Improvement Plans and Individual Development Plans.
7. Basic requirements • Qualified candidates will have a Bachelor of Science Degree in Engineering, Mining, Business or a related field • Minimum of 5+ progressive experience in mining or heavy industrial or engineering industry • Minimum of 5+ years managerial experience with increasing responsibility • Outstanding leadership, judgment and mature business skills, with the ability to establish a strong rapport with senior management • Demonstrated ability to take initiative, strong organization and prioritization skills; detail & process oriented with strong problem resolution abilities • Understanding of basic workings of plant equipment - mechanical/electrical • Demonstrable success in cultural 'turn around' a plus. • Proven in leading operational excellence through applying behavior-based management • Fluency in spoken and written English
