Their responsibilities include building brand awareness through company events and publicizing those events via social media. To stay on top of changes that may impact the company’s community, the community manager often partners with a social media manager, media relations manager, brand manager, and other members of the marketing team. As businesses continuously explore ways to engage customers, stakeholders, and partners, the role of a community manager becomes increasingly important.

How does a community manager typically collaborate with other departments within an organization?

Community Managers often work closely with marketing, customer support, and product teams to ensure consistent messaging and gather feedback from the community. They relay user concerns, suggestions, and trends to relevant departments, helping shape product development and marketing strategies. Regular cross-team meetings and clear communication channels are common, making collaboration an essential part of the role. This teamwork helps build a strong, engaged community while aligning community initiatives with company goals.

What does a community manager do?

A Community Manager is responsible for building, growing, and managing online and offline communities around a brand or organization. They engage with members, moderate discussions, respond to comments or concerns, and help foster a positive and active environment. Community Managers also monitor community metrics, gather feedback, and work closely with marketing and customer support teams to ensure the community aligns with business goals.

What skills do you need to be a community manager?

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a community manager, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Community Manager, you need strong communication skills, experience with social media platforms, and typically a background in marketing, communications, or a related field. Familiarity with community management tools like Discord, Slack, or Facebook Groups, and analytics platforms such as Sprout Social or Hootsuite, is highly beneficial. Outstanding interpersonal skills, empathy, and conflict resolution abilities help you foster a positive and engaged community. These skills are essential for building trust, maintaining active engagement, and ensuring a healthy online or offline community environment.

Help build healthier futures for kids one family at a time. As a Pediatric Community Health Worker, you'll be a trusted advocate, connector, and ambassador for COPA, helping children and families navigate healthcare, access community resources, and overcome barriers that impact their health and well-being. This role is ideal for someone who thrives working independently, takes initiative, and is confident representing COPA throughout the community. Our mission is to provide exceptional, right-fit care for kids at every age and stage, and our vision is to improve the health of all kids in our community. We do this in a welcoming, inclusive environment where collaboration, openness, play and accountability are part of how we care, not just what we do. At COPA, you'll work alongside people who value kindness, teamwork, and earning families' trust every single day.

What You'll Do

  • Screen patients and families for social determinants of health and connect them with community resources, healthcare services, and support programs.
  • Serve as COPA's representative in the community by building relationships with local organizations, schools, and community partners to strengthen access to care.
  • Independently manage referrals, patient follow-up, and family navigation while exercising sound judgment and initiative to remove barriers to care.
  • Educate and advocate for patients and families by coordinating services, providing culturally responsive support, and helping families successfully navigate healthcare and social service systems.
  • Document patient interactions, monitor outcomes, and collaborate with providers and care teams to improve health equity and deliver exceptional, family-centered care.
  •  Assist patients and families with Oregon Health Plan (OHP) enrollment and insurance applications by providing education, completing applications, managing follow-up, documenting activities, and serving as a liaison between patients and state agencies to ensure timely access to coverage.
