Job description

Serves as a key ambassador for the station, responsible for strengthening relationships with listeners, community partners, donors, and civic organizations. Leads the strategy, planning, and execution of events and outreach initiatives that elevate the station s visibility, deepen audience engagement, and advance its public-service mission. Builds partnerships, telling the station s story, and creates meaningful experiences that bring public radio to life. 

The Community Engagement Director will serve as an ambassador for WBHM. This position will be responsible for leading events and outreach initiatives, building and maintaining community partnerships, and the promotion of WBHM. We are looking for a relationship-builder who genuinely enjoys connecting with people and creating meaningful partnerships that strengthen our community.

Duties and Responsibilities:

1. Develops and implements a comprehensive community engagement strategy aligned with the station's mission and programming goals. 

2. Builds and maintains strong relationships with local nonprofits, arts organizations, educational institutions, civic groups, and cultural partners. Identify opportunities for collaborative projects, sponsorships, and outreach initiatives. Represents the station at community events, forums, and public gatherings. 

3. Leads planning and execution of all station events, including live broadcasts, member events, fundraisers, panel discussions, and community forums. Manages event logistics: venue selection, vendor coordination, staffing, run-of-show, technical needs, and post-event evaluation. Works closely with programming and development teams to ensure events support station goals and brand identity. Develops new event concepts that expand audience reach and deepen listener engagement. 

4. Collaborates with the leadership team to promote events and community initiatives across digital, on-air, and print channels. Provides content ideas, community stories, and partner highlights for newsletters, social media, and on-air messaging. Ensures consistent, mission-aligned messaging in all outreach activities. 

5. Supports membership and development teams by integrating donor stewardship into events and outreach. 

6. Tracks engagement metrics, event attendance, partnership outcomes, and community impact. Provides regular reports and recommendations to leadership. Uses data to refine strategies and identify new opportunities for growth. 

7. Manages the underwriting duties including ensuring adherence to the FCC's regulations regarding non-profit radio sponsorship and announcement copy, entering copy into traffic software, and management of database system. 

8. Performs other duties as assigned.

Salary Range: $52,555 - $66,000

Bachelor's degree in Communications, Public Relations, Marketing or related field and two (2) years of related experience required. Work experience may NOT substitute for education requirement.
