Job description

Job Title:ย Community Engagement Program Coordinatorย 

Department:ย External Relationsย 

Reports To:ย Senior Manager, External Relationsย

Job Summary:ย 

The Community Engagement Program Coordinator is a dynamic, people-centered role within JCSโ€™s External Relations department. The coordinator leads all aspects of volunteer and intern recruitment, training, placement, and recognition, and provides direct volunteer supervision for the Friendly Visitors program. In addition, the coordinator provides marketing design and outreach support to the Senior Manager, External Relations, contributing to the departmentโ€™s broader storytelling and donor engagement efforts. This position serves as a key connector between JCS programs, community partners, volunteers, and the people we serve.ย 

Supervisory Responsibilities:

  • Recruits, interviews, screens,ย mentors,ย trains, and supervises (or assigns) volunteersย and interns.

Volunteer and Internย Coordination -ย Duties/Responsibilities:ย 

  • Communicates with all departments of the organization toย identifyย available opportunities and needs forย Participants.ย ย 

  • Recruits, trains, and engages withย participantsย to fitย availableย roles using a variety of resources and techniques.ย ย 

  • Gathers information about eachย participant'sย skills, availability, and goals;ย matchesย appropriate opportunitiesย based on this data.ย ย 

  • In partnership withย program staff, schedules, coordinates, and assignsย participantsย toย appropriate departments, supervisors, and/orย mentors;ย Acts as a liaison toย ensureย the assignedย program confirmsย scheduling needs directly toย Participants.ย ย 

  • Maintains regularย communicationย withย Participantsย to ensure placements remainย a good fit forย skillsย and goals.ย 

  • Coordinates volunteer recognition,ย appreciationย events, andย relatedย activities.ย 

  • Maintains accuracy and integrity of volunteer databases by ensuring that all information is kept current and up to date; including information within constant contact used for bulk emails and other communications.ย 

  • Participatesย in the development of the volunteer budget,ย monitorย monthly expenditures, and adjusts spending accordingly to ensure compliance with approved budget.ย 

Friendly Visitorย Program Coordination

  • Collaborates with Case Management, whoย identifiesย and assesses seniors, ensuring their safety and care needs are metย in order toย appropriately match volunteers.ย 

  • Serve as a liaison between seniors and volunteers, helping to facilitate introductions, foster communication, and ensure a smooth and comfortable initial connection experience.

  • Maintains files, records, applications, and other data concerningย programming.ย 

  • Drafts,ย maintains, and publishes guidelines, best practices, and procedures forย programs.

  • Identifiesย potential grant and sponsorship opportunities andย assistsย with application process as able.ย ย ย 

Marketing & Outreach Support

  • Provides design and production support to the Senior Manager, External Relations for marketing materials, social media content, email campaigns, event collateral, and other communications assets.ย 

  • Assistsย with drafting external communications and program announcements. Creates and distributes newsletter content for the volunteer community.ย 

  • Supports the departmentโ€™s storytelling efforts by gathering volunteer and program impact stories suitable for donor and community engagement.ย 

  • Ensures all materials align with JCS brand standards andย reflects the organizationโ€™s values and mission.ย 

  • Collaborate with JCS' Outreach and Donor Steward to represent JCS at community events, networking opportunities, and philanthropic gatherings while coordinating outreach with care communities, local lay leaders, and community partners to strengthen relationships, expand visibility, and support program needs.

  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

Required Skills/Abilities:ย ย 

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.ย 

  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.ย 

  • Strong leadership skills withย the abilityย to motivate and encourage others.ย 

  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or related software.ย 

  • Ability toย maintainย confidential and meticulous records.ย 

  • Must be knowledgeable or willing to learn about Jewish values and traditions including but not limited to holidays, Shabbat programs, and end-of-life issues/customs.ย 

Education and Experience:ย 

  • Bachelor'sย Degree in relatedย fieldย highlyย preferred.ย 

  • Two or more years of supervisoryย or programย coorindationย experienceย preferred.ย ย 

  • Three years of experience working with marginalized, elderly, or at-risk populations.ย ย 

  • Validย driver'sย license with access to a vehicle with adequate auto insurance coverage.ย 

Physical Requirements:ย ย 

  • Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer;ย driving andย accessing various settings in the community.ย ย 

  • Must be able toย lift upย to 15 pounds at times.ย
