Overview
The Mortgage Business Development Officer will be responsible for community outreach and economic development activities and acting as a business development/referral source in moderately complex target market areas.
This role will establish and maintain relationships with community organizations such as activist groups, community agencies, non-profits, and minority groups, while also reaching out to all aspects of community outreach to assess community credit needs and the bank's effectiveness in meeting those needs.
Responsibilities
  • Develops and maintains a strong referral network of real estate professionals, builders, and other contacts to generate consistent mortgage lending opportunities, supported by active participation in business development and community outreach initiatives.
  • Responds to customer inquiries and referrals from personal networks and internal bank channels, ensuring timely follow-up and service.
  • Consults with prospective borrowers to assess financial and credit profiles, identify financing needs, recommend appropriate products, and collect required documentation.
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of public programs and initiatives that support community development and affordable housing efforts
  • Demonstrated success in mortgage loan origination, with a strong track record of performance
  • Solid understanding of federal and state regulatory requirements governing mortgage lending
  • Adhere to the highest standards of professional ethics and ensure full compliance with all applicable regulations, including HMDA and other federal and state requirements
  • Comprehensive knowledge of mortgage lending processes, including processing, underwriting, and compliance standards
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to convey complex information clearly
  • Strong collaboration and customer service orientation, with a commitment to delivering a positive client experience
  • Highly self-motivated, detail-oriented, and well-organized
  • Proven ability to manage multiple priorities, meet deadlines, and perform effectively in a fast-paced environment
  • Ability to communicate effectively across diverse audiences, both internally and externally
  • Strong interpersonal skills with a professional, collaborative approach
  • Bachelor's degree preferred
  • Active SAFE Act registration and/or Mortgage Loan Originator (MLO) license preferred
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Business, Finance, or related field preferred (or equivalent experience)
  • 3+ years of experience in mortgage lending, sales, or business development
  • Proven track record of generating and closing mortgage loan production
  • Active NMLS license (or ability to obtain and maintain)
  • Strong knowledge of mortgage products, underwriting guidelines, and lending regulations
  • Established network of referral partners (realtors, builders, financial professionals)
  • Bilingual or multilingual professional working proficiency is a plus
