Seamen’s Bank is seeking an experienced financial executive for the position of President & CEO to propel the Bank into its next stage of growth and development. This top executive will be responsible for the Bank’s overall strategic direction, financial performance, and regulatory compliance. As Seamen’s Bank is a community bank, the incoming leader will need to carefully balance maximizing profitability and asset growth with maintaining deep local relationships and serving the economic needs of the community.


MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES & ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS


Leadership, Strategic Vision, & Execution: In collaboration with the Board and the senior management team, develops and executes the long-term vision for the Bank and effectively communicates the vision and strategic planning throughout the Bank.

  • Oversee the development and implementation of the Bank’s strategic plans and objectives to ensure financial growth and stability.
  • Brings a thoughtful and common-sense approach to the goals and priorities of the Bank while adhering to the Bank’s mission and values.
  • Guides and supports the management team in operational decisions and policy development; active on various internal and external committees.
  • Directly manages, supports, and evaluates the performance of the senior management team.
  • Able to anticipate and identify developing issues facing the Bank. Proactively and strategically plans to address these issues.
  • Serves as a member of the Board of Trustees and is the chief liaison between the Board and members of management.
  • Drive and encourage discussions on decision-making surrounding policies that are established in the best long-term interests of the depositors, staff, and community.
  • Ability to make critical, difficult, and timely decisions, then execute and follow through to completion and delivery.
  • Demonstrated ability to shape and steer positive organizational culture and staff engagement.
  • Upholding an environment that encourages open communication, transparency, and a healthy debate of ideas. Champions change and innovation without instilling fear.

Business Performance & Operations: The President & CEO will partner with senior management to lead and develop an organization of 75 staff to achieve strategic financial and operational goals. This future leader will ensure the smooth running of the Bank, eliminate ineffective practices, and embrace innovation and forward thinking.

  • Fosters a culture of excellence, ensuring strong business performance based on innovation, minimizing duplication and waste, and maximizing efficiencies.
  • Monitors balance sheet strategies, investment portfolio, and capital portfolio and expenditures.
  • Provides exemplary stewardship of Bank resources.
  • Demonstrates strong familiarity with technologies to support business and financial functions.
  • Monitors overall financial performance and oversees decisions to drive profitability and resource allocation to steer the Bank towards its goals.
  • Continual review and improvement of all Bank operations, including lending, deposits, credit, other financial services, safety, and security.

Community Relations & Development: Seamen’s Bank is a solid, long-time financial partner to Outer Cape organizations and depositors. The Bank is a leader largely due to its continued dedication to collaboration and to making impactful improvements to the local economy. To this end, the President & CEO must be both an engaging executive and an inspiring community leader.

  • Will serve as the primary community ambassador of the Bank with a history of community engagement.
  • Leadership and/or guidance on the activities of the Seamen’s Bank charitable foundation.
  • Agile in building and strengthening relationships with customers, business leaders, government officials, and community organizations to improve the Bank’s reputation and establish a wider market presence.
  • Is an articulate and visible public speaker who can communicate with a diverse audience on a broad range of pressing local issues.
  • A genuine interest in impacting the local economy.

Risk Identification & Mitigation: Seamen’s Bank strives for the highest level of compliance and thoughtfully accepts a level of risk aligned with the best interest of the depositors.

  • A required aptitude for risk management and identifying potential issues at the Bank, within the industry, and potential impact on the community. Develops strategies and initiatives to mitigate those risks.
  • Maintains an extensive, comprehensive understanding of state and federal banking laws and regulatory requirements to successfully and effectively steer the Bank through regulatory examinations and audits.
  • Ensures the Bank complies with federal, state, and local regulations, maintaining ethical standards and risk management practices.
  • Monitors all activities of the Bank including new loan requests, overdrafts, and exceptions that elevate financial risk.
  • Leads the Bank through financial or operational challenges, ensuring calm, effective decision-making and clear and transparent communication during crises.
  • Engages complex Bank matters to legal counsel and ensures best outcomes for the Bank.

ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Regularly communicates, advises, and collaborates with the Board regarding strategic direction, ongoing operations state, arising issues, and policy.
  • Facilitates cross-departmental efforts to maximize efficiencies and eliminates duplication and waste.
  • Serves as lead for required compliance exams and various audits.
  • Sets the standard for professionalism and is a role model, striving toward a culture of excellence. Inspires others to do the same.
Requirements:

Qualifications, Requirements, and Preferred Experience and Skills

  • Proven track record of excellence as an executive or senior management team member, along with strong business, financial, and regulatory expertise.
  • Strong leadership, problem-solving, and organizational skills, with the ability to communicate effectively with staff, board members, customers, and the public. Highly skilled at managing relationships at every level and must use sound judgement with the best interests of the Bank at the forefront.
  • High level of integrity, professionalism, and an unwavering commitment to high ethical standards.
  • Excel in open communication and can appreciate the Bank’s current state and propel it to the next level.
  • Experience developing and managing teams.
  • Minimum of 10-15+ years of progressive experience in the banking or financial services industry, with a proven ability to develop teams and accelerate goals.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Business Administration, Economics, or a closely related field.
  • Must have a valid US issued driver's license.

Ideal candidates will have confirmed housing on the Mid to Outer Cape.
