Job description

Scope of Work The Strategic Communications Summer Intern will support the City of Midland in social media content creation and a Key Performance Indicator (KPI) summer project with other interns. Working collaboratively with other city interns, the intern will contribute to enhancing communication strategies and measuring their effectiveness to support the city's objectives. Essential Job Duties Content Creation: Develop engaging and informative content for various communication channels including social media, newsletters, and press releases.

Collaborate with team members to brainstorm and create content aligned with the city's objectives and initiatives. Ensure content adheres to brand guidelines and effectively communicates key messages. Communicating KPI Performance: Assist in tracking and analyzing key performance indicators (KPIs) related to communication efforts alongside other interns for larger program project.

Prepare reports and presentations outlining KPI performance to relevant stakeholders. Work closely with other interns and departments to gather data and insights for accurate reporting. Strategic Planning: Contribute to the development of strategic communication plans to support city initiatives and projects.

Conduct research to identify communication trends and best practices for effective outreach. Assist in implementing communication strategies to enhance the city's visibility and reputation. Collaboration and Coordination: Liaise with various departments to gather information and coordinate communication efforts.

Collaborate with graphic designers, photographers, and videographers to create multimedia content. Support cross-functional projects and initiatives requiring communication expertise. Participate in meetings and discussions to contribute ideas and provide updates on projects.

Media Relations: Gain experience cultivating relationships with media outlets and responding to media inquiries. Draft press releases, media advisories, and other materials to promote city events and announcements. Monitor media coverage and provide insights to enhance communication strategies.

Research and Innovation: Conduct research on communication trends, best practices, and emerging technologies. Propose innovative ideas to enhance communication effectiveness and audience engagement. Stay informed about community events and initiatives to incorporate relevant content into communication efforts.

Physical and Environmental Conditions Ability to sit, stand, and move inside the building. Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer. Ability to transfer self to various buildings and locations for multiple events.

Required Qualifications Knowledge, Abilities, and Skills Proficiency with social media platforms and content creation including, but not limited to: Instagram, Facebook, Twitter (X), Snapchat, LinkedIn, and others. Knowledge of analytic methods and tools for each platform is a plus. Strong writing and editing skills with attention to detail.

Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and familiarity with content management systems (CMS). Ability to multitask and prioritize tasks effectively in a fast-paced environment. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.

Previous experience in communications, marketing, or related fields preferred. Minimum Education, Experience, and Certification Currently enrolled in a relevant degree program (e.g., Communications, Public Relations, Marketing, Journalism, etc.).
