Job description

Empath Health is seeking a creative, compassionate, and talented Communications Specialist to execute communications initiatives that foster a supportive and informed environment for patients, families, and healthcare staff. This role will create clear, accessible, and engaging content across multiple channels including social media, blogs, and educational materials in support of organizational communication strategies.
The Communications Specialist will work closely with the External Communications Manager to implement the organization's communications strategy, ensuring all content is accurate, on-brand, and appropriate for diverse audiences. This role requires exceptional storytelling ability, cultural sensitivity for serious illness and end-of-life topics, strong writing skills across formats, and proficiency with social media platforms and content creation tools.
This is a hybrid position. Candidates must reside within commuting distance and be able to report to one of our Empath Health locations in Pinellas, Hillsborough, Manatee, Sarasota, Palm Beach, Marion, or Broward counties, as needed.
What you'll Do
  • Create engaging, empathetic content for YouTube, Instagram Reels, Facebook, LinkedIn, and other social media platforms aligned with organizational communication strategies.
  • Develop video content, graphics, stories, and posts that bring organizational mission and impact to life.
  • Stay current on social media trends, platform features, and best practices to keep content fresh and relevant.
  • Monitor social media channels, respond to comments and messages with compassion and accuracy.
  • Engage with community members, patients, families, and partners to build authentic relationships online.
  • Schedule, publish, and organize content as directed by the External Communications Manager.
  • Track social media engagement, identify high-performing content, and report insights to inform strategy optimization.

What You'll Need
  • Bachelor's degree in Communications, Journalism, Marketing, Public Relations, or a related field preferred.
  • 3-5+ years of professional communications experience with demonstrated expertise in social media content creation, digital storytelling, and healthcare or nonprofit communications.
  • .Proven experience creating engaging content for YouTube, Instagram Reels, and other social media platforms, with a portfolio that highlights creativity and effectiveness.
  • Well-versed in the latest social media trends, platform features, and best practices for content creation.
  • Skilled in storytelling, copywriting, and video editing with a keen eye for detail and visual composition.
  • Exceptional writing and editing skills with ability to adapt tone and style for different audiences and channels.
  • Demonstrated ability to create content with cultural sensitivity, empathy, and appropriateness for serious illness, end-of-life, grief, and loss topics.
  • Strong understanding of accessibility standards for digital communications and commitment to inclusive content practices.
  • Proficiency with content creation tools including Canva, Adobe Creative Suite (Premiere, Photoshop), or similar platforms.
  • Healthcare or nonprofit communications experience required.
