BioSTL is a nonprofit organization driving the growth of St. Louis as a global hub for bioscience and technology innovation. We champion entrepreneurs, connect the ecosystem, and tell the story of the region's remarkable momentum — and we're looking for a Communications Manager to help us do it even better.POSITION SUMMARY
The Communications Manager is a hands-on, strategic role at the heart of BioSTL's marketing and communications function. Reporting to the Vice President of Communications, this person will own our content, digital presence, media relationships, and marcom planning — while serving as the connective tissue that keeps the communications team organized and moving forward. This is an ideal role for a resourceful communicator who thrives on variety, thinks strategically, and loves executing well.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Project Management & Team Operations
• Serve as the project manager for the communications team — tracking deadlines, managing agendas, and keeping cross-functional projects on scheduleContent Creation & Copywriting
• Write compelling press releases, media alerts, blog posts, and web copy with a strong SEO orientation• Develop and manage content for BioSTL's and BioGenerator's social pages (primarily LinkedIn)• Manage a content calendar that keeps all channels active, relevant, and on-brand
• Contribute to design projects including social media graphics, one-pagers, and PowerPoint presentations
Media Relations
• Help cultivate and sustain relationships with local and regional media contacts
• Proactively pitch stories and secure coverage that advances BioSTL's mission and visibility
• Coordinate media interviews, manage press logistics, and support spokespeople
Digital & Website Management
• Regularly update BioSTL's website — managing content, and ensuring accuracy and freshness• Coordinate the help redesign of the BioGenerator (BG) website (with an outside partner) from strategy through launch• Monitor and improve site performance using SEO best practices and analytics
Marketing Communications Strategy
• Co-own the communications and content strategy alongside the Communications team, bringing ideas, structure, and follow-through• Develop and execute marketing communications plans for flagship BioSTL events, including the Health Summit, Ag Summit, Innovators Hour, and Startup Connect• Attend and assist with BioSTL events as a communications ambassador
• Bring strategic thinking and marcom expertise to solve communications challenges across the organizationQUALIFICATIONS
Required
• Bachelor's degree in Communications, Marketing, Public Relations, Journalism, or a related field• 3+ years of experience in communications, content marketing, or public relations
• Exceptional writing skills across multiple formats — from pithy social posts to long-form content• Experience managing social media channels and content calendars for an organization
• Hands-on experience with website CMS platforms (WordPress or similar)
• Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects, deadlines, and stakeholderssimultaneously• Strong interpersonal skills and a collaborative, team-player approach
Preferred
• Experience with SEO tools and analytics platforms (Google Analytics or similar)
• Familiarity with email marketing platforms (Mailchimp, HubSpot, or similar)
• Graphic design experience or comfort in Canva, Adobe Creative Suite, or similar tools
• Experience in a nonprofit, startup, or mission-driven organization
