Position Description

In pursuit of this, Seattle City Light is recruiting for a Temporary - People and Culture (P&C) Employee Communications and Engagement Specialist, Sr. This position is expected to last through the end of 2026. This role advances our employee communication strategy and supports P&C stakeholders by helping employees understand and access key workforce supports. It is also central to implementing Seattle City Light's employee engagement and recognition programs. The ideal candidate will be proactive, resourceful, collaborative, and able to balance multiple projects at varying stages with clarity and purpose.
The People and Culture Employee Communications and Engagement Specialist, Sr. will report to the P&C Strategic Advisor with matrixed support for Workforce Education and Engagement.

Qualifications
Required Qualifications:
In addition to the skills and experience mentioned below, a successful applicant will have experience that reflects a commitment to creating fair and equitable outcomes and has:
Experience: Requires three years' experience in planning, research, and program implementation related to the design and development of employee communications and engagement initiatives or work directly related to employee planning and development activities.
Education: Bachelor's degree in Business or Public Administration, English, Journalism, Communications, Marketing, or related field (or a combination of education and/or training and/or experience which provides an equivalent background required to perform the work).
Desired Qualifications:
  • Five or more years of experience managing programs and projects, preferably in the public sector
  • Prior experience in a public relations, marketing, journalism, or preparing and distributing public information materials, or prior experience in a communications role within a human resources organization
  • Demonstrated success delivering major communications campaigns
  • Experience planning and executing large-scale events
  • Experience developing content and programming for a diverse workforce
  • Ability to create metrics to measure communication and program effectiveness
  • Comfort navigating ambiguity and synthesizing varied perspectives into clear outcomes
  • Proven ability to manage complex projects from initiation to completion in a dynamic environment
  • Strong collaboration skills and a track record of working effectively across teams
  • Ability to communicate persuasively and credibly with varied audiences
  • Strong public speaking skills
  • Ability to foster and model exceptional customer service
  • Strong interpersonal skills, including leadership, relationship-building, and diplomatic negotiation
  • High judgment, especially under tight timelines
  • Strong organizational and time-management skills with consistent follow-through
