The opportunity

We currently have an opportunity for a Communications Consultant to join our Marketing and Communications team based in our Boston, MA office on a hybrid schedule. This position is responsible for developing and implementing internal and external communications initiatives to support business priorities, create awareness and promote our brand, insurance products, services and capabilities in the market. Some of the Communications Consultant responsibilities include but are not limited to:

Principal Duties and Responsibilities

Strategy & Consulting

  • Independently provides communications consulting and planning to business units and service groups supporting strategic priorities and business projects.
  • Proactively curates content, provides editorial consulting/oversight, regularly shares analytics and recommendations based on trends and activities.
  • Provides ongoing editorial support including writing, editing, and content development to ensure that all communications are well articulated and consistent with the company's key themes and brand strategy.
  • Supports a customer-driven culture by assessing the impact of marketing and communications initiatives and resources on the desired customer experiences.

Internal Communications

  • Develops and delivers a regular cadence of internal communications to keep employees informed on important initiatives.
  • Oversees, assists, and manages content and materials for internal audiences across a variety of platforms, ensuring that employee messages are well articulated and consistent with the company’s people priorities.
  • Develops and maintains internal communication calendars and project plans; provides regular updates to internal stakeholders.

External Communications

  • Develops communication plans to create awareness and promote brand, products, services, and capabilities in the marketplace, in support of annual objectives.
  • Develops and contributes to external content strategies across a broad spectrum of communications channels, including but not limited to websites, newsletters, trade publications, events, and social media.
  • Directly handles responses to media inquiries, often serving as company spokesperson.
  • Writes and publishes news releases and pitches story ideas to industry trade publications.
  • Ensures that published external material is promoted and repurposed in alignment with content marketing plans.
  • Collaborates and coordinates with colleagues on press, social media, and other external channels to support specialty lines initiatives.

Decision-Making Authority/Accountability Level

  • Performs complex work under minimal supervision. Exercises independent judgment in accordance with specified policies and guidelines.

Minimum Requirements/Essential Functions

  • Excellent and professional writer and communicator across all forms of media and styles to reach a range of audiences across multiple channels.
  • Must be able to work both independently, as a member of a team, and can interact with a diverse group of individuals.
  • Ability to work effectively within a global, matrix organization, collaborating across regions, functions, and time zones to deliver consistent communications outcomes.
  • Ability to demonstrate analytical, decision making, problem solving, and organizational skills.
  • Demonstrate proficiency with computer software including Microsoft Office suite and other systems utilized by the department.
  • Responsiveness and follow-through on commitments; deliver based on tight deadlines.
  • Must maintain a high level of accuracy; capable and open to adapting as needed.
  • Ability to follow work processes and governance structures to uphold brand consistency and reputation.
  • Strong judgment and confidence to make high‑impact decisions independently within agreed governance, particularly under conditions of ambiguity, time pressure, and competing priorities.
  • Ability to travel when the position requires.

The expertise you bring

  • Bachelor’s degree required
  • 6+ years of communications experience, mainly in the property-casualty
  • Insurance industry experience, including communications- internal and external, PR and consulting.

Our salary ranges are determined by many factors including location, role, experience and skillset of the candidate. The following ranges displayed reflect the target base salary for new hires; however, your recruiter will provide more specific compensation details during the hiring process. The typical base salary range for this position is: $98,000 - $129,000 based on the factors aforementioned. For candidates located in San Francisco, CA; Washington DC; our Massachusetts based offices and the New York City metro area, the base salary range is $114,000 – 133,000. In addition to base salary, full time Intact employees are also eligible for bonus potential and a full range of benefits to include but not limited to:
