Job Description:
Communications and Digital Media Coordinator
Incumbent assists with creation, distribution, tracking, and presentation of consistent, meaningful, and transparent communications and digital content for external distribution or consumption. Performs a full range of communication and marketing activities including but not limited to: planning, organizing, and promoting department communications, programs, and informational campaigns through content marketing, social media platforms, special events, publications, and website updates.
TYPICAL DUTIES:
  • Creates and/or collaborates with Public Lands staff to provide high-quality communications content to increase outreach and engagement efforts.

  • Manages social media platforms

  • Updates and manages website

  • Develops comprehensive strategies and timelines for projects and events.

  • Participates in planning, developing, and implementing marketing and communication strategies.

  • Collaborates with assigned department, other City departments, and other team representatives to develop, create, and distribute key messages for citywide projects and news.

  • Builds, coordinates, and/or maintains online content including websites, blog, and social media profiles.

  • Synthesizes complicated matters and data into understandable context and follows through on inquiries, research requests, and drafting messages for approval.

  • Conducts regular research of relevant blogs, micro blogs, list serves, events and RSS feeds, and collaborate with IMS Department to provide reporting onsite metrics and usability components of City websites.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Graduation from an accredited college or university with a bachelor's degree in English, Marketing, Communications, or a closely related field plus two to four years of professional-level experience performing communications, marketing, and/or public relations. Education and experience may be substituted one for the other on a year-for-year basis.
  • Creative ability to devise effective communication strategies.
  • Knowledge and familiarity with information technology, basic design, and digital editing is essential.
  • Excellent writing, editing, and proofreading skills.
  • Effective oral and written communication skills; excellent interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to resolve highly complex issues; develop and communicate new policies and procedures.
  • Ability to work effectively with individuals from diverse backgrounds and at various levels of the organization.

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Background knowledge of HTML web-based languages.

  • Knowledge of web analytic tools, web technologies.

  • Fluent in oral and written Spanish and English communication.

WORKING CONDITIONS:
  • Generally comfortable working conditions requiring light physical effort. Intermittent sitting, standing, and walking. May require frequent travel between office and department or meeting location.
  • Considerable exposure to stress as a result of human behavior and job requirements.
