The Senior Communications Specialist is responsible for elevating the visibility of Zurn Elkay and its trade brands to life by developing and implementing a proactive media relations strategy with trade press, industry media and local community press where the company operates. The position tells the Zurn Elkay story from within, by producing compelling, journalistic-style content for internal communications channels for associates and reps, keeping all informed, connected and engaged through newsworthy stories, personal profiles and product updates. The position also supports broader corporate communications priorities, contributing where strong, creative storytelling is needed to make an impact.

  • Craft and deliver compelling trade press pitches and releases that go beyond product features and benefits and enhance Zurn Elkay's reputation for sustainability, innovation and performance and positioning the company and its leaders as credible thought leaders in the water solutions, plumbing and building products space

  • Write, edit and distribute press releases, media advisories, fact sheets, Q&As, bylined articles and other materials that are clear, compelling and aligned with corporate messaging and AP style

  • Support corporate communications initiatives, proactively identifying opportunities to generate positive media coverage, advance thought leadership and strengthen the company's narrative across key audiences

  • Support trade shows and other events, coordinating media outreach and preparing subject matter experts with briefing documents and talking points to ensure they are confident and on-message

  • Develop and manage content strategy for internal communications channels and corporate and trade brand blogs, balancing planned storytelling with timely, news-driven pieces to maintain a steady cadence of relevant, high-quality communications

  • Research, interview and write engaging, journalistic-style content for Zurn Elkay's associates and reps, ensuring all are informed about company news, milestones, people and priorities

  • Collaborate closely with HR, marketing, lead generation, commercial and business unit leaders on corporate communications initiatives, crafting plans, surfacing stories, aligning messaging and ensuring internal and external narratives are consistent, accurate and brand-forward

  • Work with customers, subject matter experts and other partners to research, interview and craft compelling testimonials and case studies that reflect the successful implementation of products and solutions

  • Monitor, track and report on media coverage and industry trends, providing regular analysis and actionable insights to communications leadership

  • Manage deadlines, priorities and multiple concurrent assignments with a strong attention to detail, thriving in a fast-paced environment and adapting confidently to shifting priorities and emerging opportunities

  • Edit and proofread communications for grammar, spelling, punctuation, AP style, clarity and consistency, and protect and strengthen the brand by upholding style and messaging guidelines across all work

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Communications, Public Relations, English, Marketing, Advertising, Journalism or a related field

  • 5-+ years of relevant experience in a corporate or agency setting

  • Proficiency in AP Style, Microsoft Word, Excel, SharePoint and PowerPoint; familiarity with PR and social media platforms preferred

  • Strong interpersonal skills, openness to feedback, and a collaborative mindset essential to thriving in a cross-functional creative environment

  • Strategic and conceptual thinker with exceptional verbal and written communication skills

  • Highly organized and detail-oriented, with strong project and time management skills

  • Self-motivated and proactive, excels in a collaborative, fast-paced, team-oriented environment

  • Owns the draft through completion, building consensus and agreement

  • Deep understanding of best practices in tagging, keyword usage, headline creation and basic search optimization
