Job Summary:
The role of Communications & PR Intern reports to the Director of Corporate Communications & PR and includes experience in both internal and external communications. The intern will be responsible for helping drive employee engagement messaging, as well as helping to develop social media and website content.
The intern must be motivated and an independent thinker with a passion for creating strong messaging that resonates with employees, potential employees, and clients alike.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
  • Assist with collecting, editing, and publishing internal employee-centric tot company Intranet (housed on SharePoint). This may include video, photo galleries, and written content Assist with planning communications for company events, and/or event day-of coordination
  • Conduct interviews with stakeholders of all levels (including C Suite) for intranet and newsletter content
  • Help with planning and creation of monthly internal newsletter
  • Help with internal communications campaigns and initiatives; including designing and sending company-wide corporate updates and newsletters
  • Help Corporate Communications & PR Specialist with maintenance and planning of annual calendars for internal comms, social media, and intranet content
  • Support Corporate Communications & PR Specialist with annual Safety Campaign in partnership with Safety and Training teams (including SharePoint content, videos, emails, etc.)
  • Assist with corporate philanthropy donations, drives, and events
  • Help with quarterly town halls and other livestreamed events as needed
  • Take photos at company events as needed
  • Help with posting to company social media accounts, including the creation of posts and graphics
  • Help with coordination of award submissions and media relations efforts
  • Run reports on social media, website, and public relations efforts as needed
  • Collaborate with Marketing and other departments as needed on corporate branding and collateral assignments
  • Research, writing, and implementation of new content/branding for company website
  • Support for both internal and external communications needs for RailPros de Mexico and RailPros Canada (including social media)
  • Contribute to a positive, inclusive, and respectful workplace culture, free from behaviors that undermine morale, productivity, or organizational values
  • Uphold the organization's standards of integrity, accountability, and respect in all duties and interactions
  • Adhere to all company policies, procedures, and applicable laws and regulation
  • Other duties as assigned or required to meet the business needs

Knowledge Skills and Abilities:
  • Firm understanding of social media tools and platforms (Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, Twitter, etc.)
  • Completed or working toward a college degree (junior level and up) preferably in a related field (Public Relations, Marketing, Communications, Advertising, English, etc.)
  • Previous communications/PR internship experience a plus
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, SharePoint, Canva, PoliteMail, and/or AirTable
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Entry level understanding of basic principles of PR and internal communications
  • Able to work well independently (self-starter) and with a team
  • Knowledge of WordPress, SEO, HubSpot, and HTML a plus
  • Willing to work in hybrid environment (class schedule permitting, minimum of 2 days per week in-office)
  • Bilingual (written and spoken) proficiency in English and Spanish preferred but not required

Required Education and Experience:
  • Completed or working toward a bachelor's degree in Communications, Public Relations, Marketing, Advertising, or English (junior level and above)
