Advanced Practice Provider (APP) – Pulmonary Critical Care (Nocturnist)

Location: Davenport, Iowa

Schedule: Friday–Sunday | 10:00 PM – 7:00 AM

Position Overview:

MercyOne Genesis is seeking a highly skilled and autonomous Advanced Practice Provider (NP or PA) to join our Pulmonary Critical Care team in a dedicated nocturnist role. This position provides overnight, on-site coverage at our Davenport campus, supporting ICU patients and collaborating with pulmonologists to ensure high-quality, continuous care.

This is a key role focused on maintaining stability and continuity of care overnight, with a strong emphasis on independent clinical decision-making.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide comprehensive overnight coverage for ICU patients at the Davenport campus

  • Perform cross-coverage and ongoing management of critically ill patients

  • Respond to acute changes in patient condition, including rapid responses and codes

  • Collaborate with on-call pulmonologists as needed while functioning with a high degree of autonomy

  • Perform procedures within scope of practice (e.g., central lines, arterial lines, intubations – depending on experience and privileging)

  • Ensure accurate, timely documentation in the electronic medical record

  • Communicate effectively with nursing staff, respiratory therapy, and multidisciplinary teams

  • Support continuity of care through thorough handoffs to daytime teams

Qualifications:

  • Graduate of an accredited Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant program

  • Board certification as an NP or PA

  • Active or eligible for licensure in Iowa

  • Minimum of 1–2 years of ICU, critical care, or pulmonary experience preferred

  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and make sound clinical decisions in a high-acuity environment

  • Strong procedural skills preferred

  • Excellent communication and teamwork abilities

Schedule & Lifestyle:

  • Three overnight shifts per week (Friday–Sunday, 10:00 PM – 7:00 AM)
