Job description

At Apple, extraordinary ideas have a way of quickly becoming extraordinary products, services and customer experiences. Sound is an essential and compelling facet of the customer experience. Apple has assembled an elite Acoustics team that enables our customers to experience music with delight, communicate with clarity, and enjoy elegant sound throughout our product line. In Apple Acoustics we work with the utmost attention to detail, directly impacting the design of products that millions of people around the world love!
Our Noise & Vibration team contributes to hardware design, validation, and troubleshooting to minimize distracting audible noises and optimize their sound quality due to coexistence activities on device. We are a diverse team of acoustics and vibration experts, accomplished listeners, and creative problem solvers. We work daily with multifunctional teams on innovative solutions to complex engineering challenges. We are looking for a Noise & Vibration Engineer to join our team. Could this be you?
Description
As an Electronic Noise & Vibration engineer you will author SOPs, test plan and specifications. You will quantify noises, facilitate user studies, establish thresholds in lab and factory environments. These will enable you to educate multi-functional teams to implement known standard methodologies and run studies to learn new best practices. The analysis of the validation work that you will lead will help you to better understand root causes of various problems. You will work closely with partner facilities overseas but will need to travel minimally.
Preferred Qualifications
Knowledge of acoustics and vibration principles and how motion of mechanical systems turns into radiated noise
Fundamental knowledge of how voltage potential and current can lead to vibration
Basic understanding of RF, thermal, acoustic, magnetics, and mechanical statics and dynamics (preferred if these fundamentals have been applied to acoustic transducers such as MEMs microphones, receivers and micro-speakers)
Acoustic and vibration measurement skills with experience making measurements in anechoic/hemi-anechoic chambers
Accomplished listener with excellent hearing over the audible frequency range
Ability to learn new coding languages and navigate large datasets
Useful but not required: history of high-volume consumer electronics, experience with ultra low-noise measurements and a background electrical engineering. Familiarity with sensing technologies and their electrical interfaces such as PDM, differential analog, I2C
Minimum Qualifications
Though most of our engineers have advanced degrees in Mechanical Engineering, a Bachelors degree is required at a minimum. But if you’ve learned about multi-physics from adjacent fields in Applied Physics, Electrical Engineering or Acoustics Engineering, we still want to hear from you.
Experience as a “generalist” in multiple types of engineering work is valuable.
Creative problem solver who thrives in a fast-paced multi-tasking environment
Pay & Benefits
At Apple, base pay is one part of our total compensation package and is determined within a range. This provides the opportunity to progress as you grow and develop within a role. The base pay range for this role is between $134,700 and $249,500, and your base pay will depend on your skills, qualifications, experience, and location.
Apple employees also have the opportunity to become an Apple shareholder through participation in Apple's discretionary employee stock programs. Apple employees are eligible for discretionary restricted stock unit awards, and can purchase Apple stock at a discount if voluntarily participating in Apple's Employee Stock Purchase Plan. You'll also receive benefits including: Comprehensive medical and dental coverage, retirement benefits, a range of discounted products and free services, and for formal education related to advancing your career at Apple, reimbursement for certain educational expenses - including tuition. Additionally, this role might be eligible for discretionary bonuses or commission payments as well as relocation. Learn more about Apple Benefits
