Job 180125 - Emergency Department Physician
Coquille, OR

Our facility is a growing and progressive, 25-bed Critical Access Hospital and a co-located medical clinic facility in a southwestern Oregon coastal valley, just 20 minutes from the Pacific Ocean.

The hospital offers a rather full scope of community hospital services for its size including acute care, a well-equipped 24-hour 7-bed emergency room, medical and surgical services, state-of-the-art medical imaging and laboratory facilities, respiratory care, physical therapy, Swing Bed services, skilled care programs, and outpatient day surgery. The services we offer make Coquille Valley Hospital a one-stop resource.

Coquille Valley Hospital is located in a medically underserved area, is a public employer, and a not-for-profit organization, as such we participate in and qualify for many different student loan forgiveness programs. CVH has staff available to assist with loan forgiveness applications.

RequirementsCandidate Parameters:
  • Seeking EM board certified or board eligible physician
  • Will consider FM board certified physician with experience working in EM

Practice Information
  • 25 bed Critical Access Hospital- 17 beds in service
  • No OB Services
  • No afterhours surgical coverage
  • Telephone consultation orthopedics/general surgery
  • In the process of implementing a modified hospitalist program in the hospital setting.
  • Day shift (7:00 AM to 7:00 PM) will be covered by a local hospitalist with on-site coverage.
  • Night shift covered by tele-intensivist service.
  • ED physicians provide emergency coverage house wide for rapid response, codes, etc.
  • Hospital average daily census currently at 7 – expected to increase over fiscal year to 10 due to expansion of orthopedic services and hospitalist program.
  • 24/7 lab, respiratory therapy available. X-ray call after midnight
  • No US available outside of normal business hours
  • Joint Commission accredited facility
  • Multiple exam and trauma rooms
  • The hospital currently utilizes active listening artificial intelligence in the clinic setting with 5 providers and it works extremely well, greatly reducing the time required to complete medical records. The active listening AI project will be rolling out in the ED setting within the next 6 months.
Details of ED Physician Role
  • 12-hour shifts: 12 to 13 shifts per month
  • FAST exam capable.
  • Dedicated nursing team
  • 6500 ED Visits per year- visits growing year over year
  • Medication (prescription) dispensing machine in ED for afterhours prescriptions.
  • 1 physician on per shift
  • Base pay $225.00/hour
  • $240.00 per hour for any shift worked in excess of 13 shifts in any given month.
  • Up to $20,000 relocation assistance.
  • $50,000 commencement of employment incentive- structured as a forgivable loan over 24 months.
  • $3,000 annual stipend for CME, licensure, certifications and professional subscriptions
  • 3-days paid time off for CME activities
  • 403b- 1.5% employer contribution, up to 6% matching contribution.
  • Malpractice Insurance coverage
  • 12-months of temporary housing
Facility General Information
  • Planning for a $24M construction project – expected to break ground at the end of 2024.
  • MOB attached to Hospital
  • Pharmacy expansion, surgery department expansion, laboratory relocation
  • New ED entrance, registration, triage, nursing station, secure hold room for behavior health patients, storage.
  • Updated security for ED including “safe zone”, bullet resistant glass, and safety conscious design.
  • Facility employs 10 PCP’s, orthopedic PA, general surgeon. Facility also has a close relationship with an independent clinic in the area with multiple locations employing 7 PCP’s and 5 orthopedic providers.
  • All patients seen in the ED without a primary care provider are referred to CVH clinic for follow-up by the triage nurse (RN) and an appointment with a CVH PCP if necessary.
