Job description

Orthodontist

Specialize in the diagnosis, prevention, and correction of teeth and jaw irregularities. Design, fabricate, or use orthodontic appliances to realign teeth and jaws in order to allow for normal functioning and to improve appearance. Provide services both in a clinical, hospital and operating room setting.

Duties and Responsibilities
  • Coordinate the preparation of reports and written documentation as required by the department, company and State and Federal agencies.
  • Maintain proper, detailed and accurate dental records.
  • Travels between clinics to work, as needed.
  • Willingness to be on-call, as scheduled, by the Dental Director/Administrative Director (AD).
  • Willingness to assist Clinic Manager/AD in supervising the dental staff and assuring that clinic is compliant with State and Federal guidelines.
  • Meet productivity goals, as set by the Arkansas Children's Hospital organization and assist the AD, and work with dental staff to accomplish that goal.
  • Maintain a professional demeanor with patients, staff and administration.
  • Perform other tasks, as directed by the Dental Director/AD, as needed to meet clinic or organization goals.
  • Supervise Dental Assistants with whom he/she works.
  • Understand the organization's commitment to provide high quality patient care. Promote a patient-centered environment.
  • Examine and diagnose and treat dental conditions to provide optimum care to patients.
  • Consult with the patient/parent/guardian and advise them of dental status and required treatment.
  • Educate patients regarding oral conditions, provide treatment options and explain to the patient/parent/guardian the risks, benefits and alternatives of each option.
  • Using various diagnostic tests to determine the condition of patients' teeth.
  • Studying patient records, including dental histories, plaster models of teeth, and X-rays to develop treatment plans for patients.
  • Discussing treatment plans and cost estimates with patients.
  • Treating occlusion issues and other oral conditions.
  • Instructing assistants on orthodontic procedures and techniques.
  • Collaborating with other specialists, such as dentists and oral surgeons, to coordinate orthodontic services within the overall treatment plan.
  • Fitting patients for various orthodontic appliances.
  • Scheduling regular checkups with patients to make adjustments to orthodontic appliances, such as tightening braces, and tracking patient progress.
  • Educating patients about on-going orthodontic care and explaining proper oral hygiene methods for good oral health.
  • Providing referrals to other professionals, such as oral surgeons, when needed.
  • Other duties as assigned.
