About The Opportunity

This position provides guidance and technical leadership through execution of metal fabrication and welding processes. The Manufacturing Engineer is responsible for supporting manufacturing operations through weld line setup, fixture development, automation integration, capacity planning, and continuous improvement initiatives. This role partners with Operations, Quality, Engineering, Sales, and Customers to successfully execute production processes that meet the customer requirements.

-Meets all key duties and responsibilities of a Metal Fabrication Engineer.

-Lead and manage operational projects related to metal fabrication, welding, automation, material handling, and plant infrastructure improvements.

-Develop and implement weld line layouts, workstation designs, and material flow strategies to support production requirements and optimize throughput.

-Design, validate, and improve welding fixtures, tooling, and work holding systems to ensure repeatable quality, ergonomic operation, and efficient cycle times.

-Analyze and improve fabrication and welding processes including:

  • MIG welding
  • Robotic welding applications
  • Tube and sheet metal fabrication
  • Laser cutting
  • Press brake operations
  • Assembly processes

-Lead technical activities associated with new product launches, including:

  • Manufacturing feasibility reviews
  • Process development
  • Weld sequence planning
  • Fixture design
  • Capacity analysis
  • Production validation and launch support

-Establish and maintain manufacturing standards, work instructions, process documentation, and operator training programs.

-Drive continuous improvement initiatives focused on:

  • Labor efficiency
  • Weld quality
  • Cycle time reduction
  • Scrap reduction
  • Equipment utilization
  • Schedule attainment

-Support robotic welding implementation and optimization, including programming coordination, fixture validation, and process troubleshooting.

-Collaborate with Quality and Production teams to investigate welding defects, dimensional concerns, and process variation using root cause analysis and corrective action methodologies.

-Work with suppliers, equipment manufacturers, and integrators to specify, procure, install, and commission fabrication and welding equipment.

-Interface with plant leadership, engineers, supervisors, maintenance personnel, and production associates to improve manufacturing performance and technical capabilities.

-Conduct project management training, technical coaching, and process improvement workshops as required.

-Position will maintain two direct reports: Cobot programmer and Production Designer (fixtures).

-Other duties as assigned.

Education/Certification

Level Required

  • Bachelor's Degree - Plastics Engineering Technology, Industrial Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or Manufacturing Engineering

Level Desired

  • Scientific Molding Certifications, such as RJG
  • Train the Trainer
  • Certification in Project Management by PMBOK

Work Experience Required

  • 3-6 years of relevant work experience
  • AutoCAD &/or SolidWorks experience
  • Project management experience
  • Welding experience, when in Customs operations

Work Experience Desired

  • 6-8 years of relevant work experience
  • Experience with plastic molding operations.
  • Familiarity with Scientific Molding principles
  • Knowledge of product design/manufacturability
