What is a commission medical data annotation?

Commission medical data annotation jobs involve labeling and categorizing medical data—such as images, clinical notes, or audio recordings—for use in training machine learning models in healthcare. Workers are typically paid based on the amount of data they accurately annotate, rather than an hourly wage. Tasks may include identifying diseases in medical images, transcribing doctor notes, or classifying medical records. These jobs are critical for developing reliable artificial intelligence systems in medicine, supporting applications like diagnostics, treatment planning, and research. Attention to detail, understanding of medical terminology, and adherence to privacy standards are essential in these roles.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a commission medical data annotation specialist?

To thrive as a Commission Medical Data Annotation Specialist, you need a solid understanding of medical terminology, data annotation techniques, and attention to detail, often with a background in life sciences or healthcare. Familiarity with annotation platforms, data labeling tools, and compliance standards such as HIPAA is typically required. Strong analytical skills, meticulousness, and effective communication make someone stand out in this position. These skills are crucial for ensuring high-quality, accurate data that supports reliable AI and research outcomes in medical applications.

What are some common challenges faced in a commission medical data annotation role and how can they be addressed?

Job Description

Team: Data Conversion Services

Salary Range: $110,000-$140,000 USDLocation: Chicago, Dallas, or Atlanta (Hybrid)

This position operates in a hybrid model with weekly (2-3 days per week) in-office collaboration days from our Chicago, Dallas, or Atlanta offices.

Opportunity for Impact

Applied is where insurance technology gets reinvented, and we build it fast. Our cloud software and AI-powered solutions reach thousands of agencies and brokers worldwide, setting the pace for what modern insurance can do.

We're looking for a Manager, Data Transformation & Conversion Services to join our Data Conversion Services and help us redefine how data migration and implementation services are delivered in an AI-enabled future.

This is more than a traditional operations management role. While people leadership and delivery excellence remain critical, we're looking for someone equally passionate about innovation, automation, and organizational transformation - someone who will challenge existing processes, embrace emerging technologies, and help build the next generation of data services.

What You'll Do

  • Lead, coach, and develop a team of Data Conversion Specialists, building a culture of accountability, continuous learning, and customer success
  • Identify skill gaps and craft talent strategies that prepare the team for future business needs
  • Spot opportunities to apply AI, automation, and emerging technologies to improve efficiency, quality, and customer outcomes
  • Champion experimentation, rapid prototyping, and continuous improvement, driving adoption of AI-powered tools across the team
  • Own delivery of data conversion activities across a portfolio of customer implementations, tracking KPIs for quality, productivity, and customer satisfaction
  • Support complex, strategic, and at-risk customer engagements, serving as an escalation point for migration challenges and solution design

What We're Looking For

  • 2+ years of leadership experience managing technical, consulting, implementation, or data-focused teams
  • Demonstrated success leading organizational change or transformation initiatives
  • Strong coaching, mentoring, and people development skills
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to navigate ambiguity and make decisions in evolving environments
  • Experience with AI, automation, machine learning, generative AI, or digital transformation initiatives
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience, plus 5+ years working in data conversion or analysis roles

Bonus points if you also have:

  • A background in data migration, data integration, implementation services, SaaS, or professional services organizations
  • Experience building and scaling operational processes
  • Familiarity with change management frameworks and evaluating emerging technologies
  • Experience evaluating and implementing emerging technologies

Talent shows up in a lot of different ways, and we mean that. We welcome candidates from all backgrounds and experience levels, including military members and their spouses and those without a traditional degree or tech background. If this role speaks to you, apply.

Why You'll Like Working on Team AppliedThe best work happens when smart people move fast, together. For over 40+ years, Applied has built technology that solves real problems for insurance professionals - and we're still pushing what's possible.

You'll be part of our people-first culture built on trust, inclusion, and growth - where you're supported to deliver, collaborate with teammates who care, and grow with leaders invested in your success.

How We'll Support You

We invest in the whole person, not just the role. Our benefits and resources are built to support your health, your time, and your life outside of work:

  • Medical, Dental, and Vision Coverage
  • Holiday and Vacation Time
  • Health & Wellness Days
  • A Bonus Day for Your Birthday

Compensation Transparency

Our targeted starting base salary in the United States for this position considers a variety of factors, including depth and breadth of experience, skills and role scope. Depending on the role, team members may also be eligible for additional compensation plans (bonus and commission).

Your Security Matters:  Our candidates' personal information and online safety are top of mind. Applied communicates with candidates only via a secure @appliedsystems.com email address or through our official careers portal.
