Supervises activities on an experimental farming operation.
Meets with farm administrators and/or research project leaders to discuss, plan and coordinate on-going or proposed projects in order to define tasks, personnel, equipment and supplies needed, scheduling, and methodology to avoid conflicts and resolve problems; recommends changes or modifications or experiments to save time, money and effort.
Keeps personnel records of time and attendance, approves or disapproves leave, accidents; assigns work, oversees accuracy and completeness of records completed by employees, trains employees, instructs employees in and supervises safety practices; completes accident reports.
Purchases supplies, equipment, tools and repairs; sees that animals and/or plants are cared for on a scheduled basis.
Maintains facilities, designs and directs construction or major repair projects by employees; operates, repairs and maintains equipment, grounds and buildings by completing wiring, carpentry, plumbing or similar repairs.
Performs comparable technical supervisory work in other agricultural research areas such as forestry, aquaculture, agriculture engineering, etc.
QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Four years of experience in research farming or in farm management; OR
Five years of experience in farming; OR
Twenty-four semester hours in an agricultural, plant science, or animal science field.

Job Duties: Greenhouse and Facility Management Supervises daily operations of all greenhouse complexes, headhouses, storage areas, and support structures. Manage allocation of greenhouse space for research and teaching activities. Oversee construction, renovation, and major repair projects in coordination with Facilities Planning. (30%) Equipment and Systems Oversight: Operates, maintains, and repairs greenhouse equipment and environmental control systems. (30%) Procurement and Budget Management: Purchase supplies, equipment, and materials necessary for greenhouse functions. Maintain inventory control systems for supplies and equipment. Assist in budget planning and monitors expenditures to ensure efficient resource use. Provide monthly invoices containing greenhouse facility and consumable usage by research faculty and departments. (20%) Grounds and Physical Plant Management: Oversee pest management and environmental controls. Maintains greenhouse sanitation and biosecurity standards. (15%) Compliance and Safety: Implements and enforces safety procedures across all greenhouse and operational activities. Ensures compliance with institutional, state, and federal regulations. Maintains records related to safety, inspections, and operational compliance. (5%)
