Crisis Services Night Supervisor
JOB DESCRIPTION:
The Crisis Care Center is designed to provide crisis stabilization to individuals experiencing a behavioral health and/or substance use crisis and reduce pressure on local emergency departments. Once the crisis has been resolved and the individual has been stabilized, they will be linked with a community mental health provider for on-going services. This position is a responsible for general supervision of the overnight operation of the Crisis Care Center including training, EMR and basic IT assistance, incident reporting and safety under the direction of the Crisis Care Center Director and Management Team.
This position requires knowledge of program operations, ADMH standards and agency policies and procedures. Organizational skills are essential to ensure the smooth and continuous workflow including documentation responsibilities as well as clinical services throughout the Crisis Care Center. Work requires initiative and independence in the handling of delegated administrative duties. This employee is responsible for the ongoing monitoring of compliance with the ADMH standards and the QA process for consumer chart and documentation. This position assists the management team with planning, operation, performance improvement and accountability of the Crisis Care Center. The individual hired will assist the Crisis Care Center Director and Management Team with clinical and administrative duties and actively participates in a supervisor role to assist with overnight operations and the Crisis Care Center workflow.
Reports To: Crisis Care Center Director
Employees Supervised: Under the direction of the Crisis Care Center Director and Management Team- Staff working the overnight shift
Shift: Overnight hours (11:00 PM - 7:30 AM) with occasional weekend coverage based on operational needs
PRIMARY JOB FUNCTIONS:
  • Participate in the planning, coordination, scheduling, and oversight of overnight Crisis Care Center operations
  • Perform clinical and administrative tasks including data collection, tracking and analysis systems to ensure key performance measures are met, creating reports, completing state reports, as needed and required to maintain effective night operations and service delivery at the crisis care center
  • Provide the Crisis Care Center Director and others the necessary data and reports to measure effectiveness and efficiency including submitting agency and Therap Incident reports to ADMH
  • Serve as the primary overnight operational resource by responding to and resolving routine facility, technology, and system-related issues, including EMR, fire alarm, and basic IT concerns.
  • Provide real-time support to staff, coordinate with internal and external resources as needed, and notify the Director or appropriate management personnel of incidents requiring additional oversight or intervention.
  • Responsible for the storage, protection and accountability of client records and information
  • Responsible for maintaining the center's compliance with standards established by JBS, the Alabama Department of Mental Health, Medicaid agency and any other entities that have oversight responsibility for the Crisis Care Center
  • Review and evaluate staffing levels, acuity, available personnel and adjust overnight assignments as authorized by the Crisis Care Center Director/Management Team that aid in ensuring CCCC workflow is maximized and consistent with effective service delivery
  • Provide overnight on-site supervision during law enforcement and EMS drop-offs, supporting providers and staff in evaluating and accepting referrals in accordance with Crisis Care Center guidelines and admission criteria
  • Strengthen partnerships with law enforcement and EMS agencies during night shift through ongoing communication, education, and collaboration to support access to appropriate behavioral health care
  • Responsible for training Crisis Care Center new hires, ongoing trainings (i.e., CPR/First Aid, Therapeutic Options, Incident Reporting and Crisis Care Center specific trainings).
  • Identify issues/solutions to resolve safety concerns at the Crisis Care Center (i.e., consumers, staff, visitors, vendors etc.) and provide recommendations and reports as needed.
  • Coordinate of ongoing care with emergency departments, hospitals, community health/mental health providers
  • Assist all departmental staff at the crisis care center with completing all crisis care center services when needed including delegating responsibilities to staff as required
  • Assist with front desk when needed by answering the phone, complete point of entry in Avatar to ensure accurate processing of individuals receiving services, review/audit charts, and discharge recipients from Avatar as needed to improve workflow and increase bed capacity
  • Facilitate all required drills (i.e., fire, weather etc.) and inspections per JBS and ADMH guidelines
  • Attend daily shift change meetings with crisis care center staff to review census, acuity, safety concerns, admissions, discharges, and staffing needs to support continuous, high-quality crisis services
  • Provides direct services as needed or required
  • Other duties as assigned

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Bachelor's degree in human services, or bachelor's degree in any field accompanied by a minimum of 2 years of experience in serious mental illness, substance use and or crisis services required, 3 years preferred working in the field of mental health supporting service providers
  • Experience with electronic health record entry and maintenance
  • Valid Alabama driver's license and driving record acceptable to agency automobile insurance carrier for inclusion on agency policy.
  • Certification as a Therapeutic Options Trainer to support activities of the Crisis Care Center preferred

PREFERRED But Not Required
  • Master's degree in a human services field (Psychology, Counseling, Social Work, Marriage and Family Therapy, Agency Counseling) with five (5) years post graduate experience in mental health preferred
  • Substantial experience working with serious mental illness and substance use populations
  • Supervisory experience and or experience in operational management
  • ALC, LMSW, LCSW, LMFT or LPC

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS and ABILITIES:
  • Demonstrable knowledge of sound mental health practices and procedures
  • Ability to implement and monitor policies, procedures, and program objectives
  • Experience in medical/social service records and computerized data storage and organization
  • Extensive knowledge of both ADMH and Medicaid standards for supported documentation and billing requirements involved with the provision of client services
  • Knowledge of local resources for care and services
  • Demonstrable communication skills - both written and oral
  • Strong interpersonal skills, ability to easily adjust to changing demands and priorities with composure and professionalism
  • Ability to work cooperatively within the Crisis Care Center staff and with other JBS programs and agencies
  • Demonstrable organizational/time management/teaching/supervisory skills
  • Ability to organize, coordinate and manage the activities of the Crisis Care Center program operations
