Help shape how two iconic brands show up in the conversations that matter most. Cosmopolitan and Seventeen are looking for a culturally tuned-in Social Media Editor who can turn breaking moments, emerging trends, and original ideas into compelling social content that audiences want to watch, share, and come back for.
About Hearst Magazines (Why Us?)
Hearst Magazines' portfolio of more than 30 iconic brands in the U.S. inspires and entertains audiences across all media platforms. From Cosmopolitan and Esquire to Good Housekeeping, Harper's BAZAAR, and Popular Mechanics, our brands are among the most trusted and influential voices in the world. We reach hundreds of millions of people every month across digital, social, video, print, and emerging platforms, creating content and experiences that inform, entertain, and inspire.
Key Responsibilities (What You Are Doing)
  • Program Cosmopolitan and Seventeen's social channels daily, with a primary focus on Instagram and TikTok and secondary support for X and Snapchat, pairing a strong visual eye with sharp, engaging copy.
  • Respond quickly and creatively to pop culture, breaking celebrity news, internet trends, and the broader zeitgeist with distinctive, on-brand points of view.
  • Concept, shoot, edit, and publish social-first short-form video for TikTok and Instagram Reels, including trending formats, original series, reactions, and commentary designed to drive engagement and build loyal audiences.
  • Execute social strategy around major editorial moments, including cover launches, feature packages, brand tentpoles, and other priority initiatives.
  • Capture behind-the-scenes content at Cosmopolitan and Seventeen shoots and collaborate with talent and external representatives as needed to produce original social-only interviews and content.
  • Cover live events and awards shows in real time, creating fast, compelling social content both on location and remotely.
  • Analyze weekly and monthly platform performance, translating audience and content insights into recommendations that optimize publishing cadence, formats, creative choices, and copy.
  • Collaborate closely with Cosmopolitan and Seventeen editorial teams and Hearst's central video team while contributing an informed perspective on emerging platforms, formats, and audience behaviors.

Qualifications (What We're Looking For)
  • 3+ years of experience in digital media, social media, video content creation, or a related field.
  • Demonstrated success growing social accounts and creating high-performing content across at least two major social platforms.
  • Strong understanding of Instagram, TikTok, X, Snapchat, and emerging platforms, including platform trends, audience behavior, and evolving best practices.
  • Hands-on experience shooting and editing short-form video for TikTok, Instagram Reels, or similar platforms in a professional media environment.
  • Excellent copywriting and editorial instincts, with the ability to create engaging captions, headlines, and sharp takes that reflect a distinct brand voice.
  • Confidence appearing on camera in short-form video and vodcast formats, along with comfort capturing content in fast-moving environments.
  • Proficiency with mobile video production and editing tools; working knowledge of Adobe Premiere, Final Cut Pro, Photoshop, or similar creative tools is preferred.
  • Experience with social publishing and analytics platforms such as Sprinklr, Dash Hudson, Sprout Social, or similar tools is preferred.
  • A strong curiosity about pop culture, celebrity news, internet culture, and how brands can creatively participate in-and help shape-social trends.
  • Ability to work from our New York City office 4 days per week.

Benefits (What We Offer)
  • Work with the Best: Collaborate with top-tier professionals across media, advertising, tech, fashion, lifestyle, and publishing, shaping the future of these dynamic industries.
  • Grow Your Skills: Unlock your potential with access to innovative training programs, immersive workshops, and exclusive industry events.
  • Work-Life Harmony: Enjoy the flexibility of hybrid work, empowering you to balance professional success with personal priorities.
  • Foster Connection & Belonging: Join our Employee Resource Groups and help create a welcoming workplace where everyone feels valued and empowered.
  • Wellness First: Prioritize your well-being with a comprehensive benefits package that includes medical, dental, and vision insurance from Day 1.
  • Plan for Your Financial Future: Enjoy competitive financial perks, including a 401(k) plan with a generous company match.

The base salary range for this role is $68,340-$70,000. This position is not eligible for bonus or commission compensation. Actual compensation will be determined based on experience, skills, qualifications, and location.
