Job description

Position Overview:
  • Transcribes medical dictation from the Pathologists. Maintains medical and legal records and correspondence files. Assemblies data for reports relative to committee meetings. Handles telephone calls and messages for the pathologists. Initiates charges on medical legal reports, autopsies and blood alcohol determinations.

Essential Functions:
A) Daily transcription/typing as dictated or assigned.
B) Process with proper protocol all send outs/check in of blocks, slides, and specimens.
C) Maintain and oversee all pathology messages in the pathology book..
D) Process with proper protocol of all autopsy, coroner, law enforcement issues.
E) Coordinate/schedule all monthly meetings, surgeries on calendar.
F) Assist Pathologist and Department Staff with all administrative/secretarial needs.
Physical Demands and Working Conditions:
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to see, talk and hear. The employee frequently is required to sit and use hands along with fingers, to handle or feel. The employee is occasionally required to stand, walk, reach with hands and arms, climb or balance, and stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl.

Qualifications & Skills:
  • a) Education: High school diploma or equivalent. One or more years of college or training preferred.
  • b) Training & Experience: Dictation experience preferred.

c) Job Knowledge: Anatomy and medical terminology preferred.
