About the Role

We are seeking a seasoned cybersecurity architect to join our team in support of BMO's AI journey. This role is responsible for securing Artificial Intelligence (AI), both Generative AI (GenAI) and Agentic AI, capabilities across the enterprise, ensuring they are resilient, compliant, and aligned with financial industry regulatory expectations.

You will engage with various business and technology stakeholders to ensure that proposed AI implementations adhere to the enterprise's cybersecurity standards. This role will require you to partner closely with your peers in various Cybersecurity, Risk, Legal, and Engineering teams in identifying and solutioning cyber controls related to securing AI across the enterprise.

Key Responsibilities

Enterprise AI Security Strategy

  • Support BMO's AI security strategy alignment to our Cyber and Risk priorities
  • Develop AI-specific threat models across the model lifecycle (training deployment inference)
  • Integrate AI security into Zero Trust, cloud security, and data protection frameworks

AI Risk & Control Framework

  • Work with cybersecurity and risk peers to ensure established AI security controls align to a given business/technology initiative
  • Stay current on industry business and technical trends with respect to cybersecurity governance practices with an emphasis on Artificial Intelligence
  • Provide support for BMO's Responsible AI Operations (i.e., RAIOps) practices
  • Advise BMO's 2nd line AI Risk function in review of AI related use cases

Secure AI Architecture

  • Partner with Cyber, Enterprise Architecture, and Engineering to define patterns for AI/GenAI platforms (cloud-hosted, APIs, internal models, enterprise copilots)
  • Enforce security requirements across AI pipelines:
    • Data ingestion and preprocessing
    • Model training and tuning
    • Deployment and inference layers
  • Perform security architecture design reviews for all AI use cases prior to production deployment

Third-Party & Vendor Security

  • Partner with Cyber peers to define security requirements and support assessments for external AI vendors and platforms
  • Ensure alignment with vendor risk management, data protection, and residency requirements

Regulatory & Audit Readiness

  • Ensure AI systems comply with applicable financial regulations and supervisory expectations
  • Provide or contribute to audit-ready documentation and evidence of control effectiveness
  • Support regulatory exams and internal audits related to AI and GenAI

Security Enablement

  • Provide guidance to AI engineering and platform teams on secure development practices
  • Drive enterprise awareness of AI security risks and controls
  • Enable safe, scalable adoption of AI across the organization

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering or Computer Science or relevant discipline
  • 10+ years overall experience in cybersecurity, with demonstrated leadership experience
  • 4-5 years experience in a Security Architect role with 2 years experience specifically in AI Architecture (and all security related aspects)
  • Expertise in cloud security, application security, and data protection
  • Experience securing AI/ML or advanced analytics platforms
  • Strong understanding of AI system architectures.
  • Strong understanding of financial services regulatory environment
  • Proven ability to build and operationalize security frameworks at scale
  • Strong communication skills.
  • Experience supporting audits and regulators recommended

Salary:

$122,400.00 - $228,000.00

Salaries will vary based on factors such as location, skills, experience, education, and qualifications for the role, and may include a commission structure. Salaries for part-time roles will be pro-rated based on number of hours regularly worked. For commission roles, the salary listed above represents BMO Financial Group's expected target for the first year in this position.
