KBR is seeking a driven and detail-oriented Accountant in Huntsville, AL or Houston, TX to join the Mission Technology Solutions (MTS) organization. In this role, you will contribute to the integrity of the company's financial records through disciplined general ledger management, reconciliations, and compliance activities within a dynamic, matrixed environment. The ideal candidate is a proactive self-starter who takes ownership of deliverables, thrives in a hands-on execution role, and collaborates effectively across global finance teams, playing a critical role in ensuring financial accuracy, supporting audits, and advancing process improvements that strengthen KBR's commitment to financial and accounting excellence.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist in maintaining the accuracy of the general ledger in accordance with KBR accounting policies, procedures, and applicable regulatory requirements (US GAAP, FAR, CAS).
  • Prepare and enter standard journal entries in accordance with company policies
  • Prepare and complete monthly and quarterly account reconciliations, investigating variances and resolving discrepancies in a timely manner.
  • Support variance analysis and prepare ad hoc financial reports
  • Provide support to finance teams within MTS to support financial reporting
  • Ensure data accuracy within accounting systems and assist with system updates or data clean-up efforts
  • Assist with internal and external audit requests, including supporting documentation and SOX compliance activities
  • Identify opportunities for process improvements, including leveraging technology and advanced Excel functionality to enhance efficiency, accuracy, and scalability.
  • Ensure adherence to internal controls and corporate governance standards across all accounting processes.
  • Assist in period-end close activities, ensuring deadlines are met with a high degree of accuracy and completeness.
  • Contribute to a culture of accountability, collaboration, and operational excellence within the finance organization.

Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field; equivalent work experience may be considered in lieu of a degree.
  • 1-3+ years of relevant accounting experience in a corporate or public accounting environment.
  • Strong understanding of general accounting principles and financial reporting requirements, including US GAAP.
  • Experience performing account reconciliations, variance analysis, and general ledger maintenance.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently, manage multiple priorities, and meet tight deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • High level of proficiency in Microsoft Office, particularly Excel (e.g., pivot tables, lookups, data analysis).
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills with a keen attention to detail.
  • Effective communication skills, with the ability to clearly convey financial information to various stakeholders.
  • Proven ability to collaborate cross-functionally within a matrixed organization.
  • Self-motivated with a proactive approach to identifying issues and delivering solutions.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with Costpoint, Cognos, FCCS, or similar ERP and financial reporting systems.
  • Familiarity with government contracting environments and regulatory frameworks (FAR, CAS).
  • Experience supporting SOX compliance and audit processes.
  • Track record of driving process improvements and leveraging automation tools to enhance accounting operations.

Additional Compensation: KBR may offer bonuses, commissions, or other forms of compensation to certain job titles or levels, per internal policy or contractual designation.
