Job Summary/Overview

The Commercial Landscape Technician (Level 1) is a vital member of the landscape team, responsible for the professional execution of commercial lawn care and landscape bed maintenance to enhance the aesthetic appeal and value of the community. This role involves the safe and skilled operation of commercial-grade landscape equipment, as well as the application of best practices to maintain a pristine environment. The Technician acts as a front-line ambassador for the community, ensuring all work is completed to the highest standards of quality and professionalism.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

The following statements describe the principal functions of this position and the scope of responsibility, but should not be considered an all-inclusive listing of work requirements. Individuals may be expected to perform other duties as assigned, including working in different areas to cover absences or balance the workload.   • Lawn and Bed Maintenance: Executes routine lawn care tasks including precision mowing, edging, and blowing using commercial-grade equipment. Performs meticulous landscape bed maintenance, including weeding, mulching, and debris removal.
  • Horticultural Care: Skillfully trims, prunes, and shapes hedges, shrubs, and other ornamental plantings. Assists with the installation and removal of seasonal plants and flowers. Identifies and reports signs of plant stress, disease, or pest infestations to management.
  • Equipment Operation & Maintenance: Operates and maintains a variety of power tools and commercial landscape equipment, including zero-turn mowers, trimmers, edgers, blowers, and chainsaws. Adheres to all safety protocols for equipment operation and performs daily pre-trip and post-trip inspections as required.
  • Communication & Professionalism: Maintains a professional demeanor and appearance at all times when interacting with residents, visitors, and co-workers. Communicates effectively with clients as needed and promptly relays any pertinent information or service requests to the Operations Manager.
  • Safety & Compliance: Ensures strict adherence to all company safety standards and procedures, including the consistent use of required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE). Strives to maintain a safe working environment by preventing accidents, preserving equipment, and following all regulatory guidelines.
  • General Duties: Completes additional tasks as assigned, which may include assisting with irrigation system checks, light repairs, and other landscape-related projects to ensure the overall health and beauty of the community. Performs other duties as assigned

Qualifications (Education, Experience, Technical Skills)

Education and Experience:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent required
  • Minimum of 1-2 years of hands-on professional landscape maintenance experience, preferably in a commercial or community setting.
  • Proven experience operating a variety of commercial landscape equipment.

Skills and Knowledge:

  • Fundamental understanding of landscape horticulture, including the ability to identify common plants, shrubs, and turfgrasses.
  • Basic knowledge of landscape irrigation systems, including the ability to identify common maintenance issues.
  • Aptitude for identifying common pests, diseases, and weeds.
  • Must be able to read, write, and comprehend English to follow written and oral instructions, safety manuals, and chemical labels.
  • Bilingual proficiency (Spanish) is highly desirable.

Certifications and Licenses

Certifications and Licenses:

To be considered for this role, candidates must possess or be able to obtain the following:

Required:

  • Valid Driver's License with a clean driving record.
  • Green Industries Best Management Practices (GI-BMP) certification is required within 90 days of hire.
  • National Association of Landscape Professionals (NALP) or the Florida Nursery, Growers and Landscape Association (FNGLA).

Strongly Preferred:

  • Limited Commercial Landscape Maintenance (LCLM) Pesticide Applicator License or the ability to obtain it within a specified timeframe. This certification is crucial for applying herbicides and pesticides.
