What is a commercial insurance account manager?

Commercial Insurance Account Managers are professionals who serve as the primary point of contact between insurance companies and business clients. They are responsible for managing and servicing commercial insurance accounts, ensuring clients have the appropriate coverage for their business needs, and addressing any questions or concerns related to their policies. Their duties include reviewing and renewing policies, processing claims, and providing risk management advice. They work closely with both clients and underwriters to tailor insurance solutions that protect businesses from various risks.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a commercial insurance account manager?

To excel as a Commercial Insurance Account Manager, you need a thorough understanding of commercial insurance products, risk assessment, policy management, and typically a relevant license such as a Property and Casualty Insurance License. Familiarity with agency management systems like Applied Epic or AMS360, as well as proficiency in CRM and quoting software, is standard. Strong interpersonal, organizational, and problem-solving skills help in building client relationships and efficiently handling complex accounts.
