Job description

CUI Construction is seeking a skilled and safety-focused Aerial Lineman to join our growing telecommunications construction team. The Aerial Lineman is responsible for the installation, maintenance, repair, and upgrade of aerial telecommunications infrastructure, including fiber optic and coaxial cable networks. This position requires working at heights, operating bucket trucks, and ensuring all construction activities are completed safely, efficiently, and in compliance with company, customer, and industry standards.

The ideal candidate will have experience in aerial telecommunications construction, strong technical skills, and a commitment to delivering high-quality network infrastructure that supports critical communications services.

Essential Responsibilities
  • Install, maintain, and repair aerial fiber optic and coaxial cable systems.
  • Perform strand placement, lashing, over-lashing, cable placement, and cable transfers.
  • Install and replace poles, anchors, guy wires, and related aerial hardware as required.
  • Read and interpret construction prints, network designs, staking sheets, and utility maps.
  • Safely operate bucket trucks, digger derricks, trailers, and other construction equipment.
  • Perform fiber and coax cable preparation, splicing support, and testing as needed.
  • Complete pole transfers and network upgrades in accordance with customer specifications.
  • Conduct routine inspections of aerial plant and identify potential safety hazards or maintenance concerns.
  • Ensure proper clearance requirements and compliance with utility regulations.
  • Coordinate with supervisors, utility companies, inspectors, and subcontractors to ensure project completion.
  • Accurately complete daily production reports, safety documentation, and work orders.
  • Participate in emergency restoration efforts and outage response activities as required.
  • Maintain company vehicles, tools, and equipment in safe working condition.
  • Adhere to all OSHA, NESC, customer, and company safety requirements.
QualificationsRequired
  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience in aerial telecommunications construction.
  • Experience installing aerial fiber optic and/or coaxial cable.
  • Ability to climb poles and work from aerial lifts and bucket trucks.
  • Valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain customer-specific certifications and credentials.
  • Strong understanding of telecommunications construction methods and safety practices.
  • Ability to read and interpret construction drawings and utility prints.
  • Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions.
Preferred
  • CDL Class A or B license.
  • Fiber optic construction experience.
  • Experience with Comcast, Charter, Cox, AT&T, or other major telecommunications providers.
  • OSHA 10 or OSHA 30 certification.
  • Pole Climbing Certification.
  • First Aid/CPR Certification.
  • Experience operating digger derricks and heavy construction equipment.
Physical Requirements
  • Ability to work at heights up to 40 feet or more.
  • Ability to lift, carry, and move up to 75 pounds.
  • Ability to climb poles, ladders, and access elevated work areas.
  • Ability to stand, bend, kneel, crouch, and work in confined spaces for extended periods.
  • Ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions.
  • Ability to travel as required for project assignments.
