Job description

POSITION: Combustion Aerothermal Design Engineer

LOCATION: Jupiter, FL.

STATUS: Salary-Exempt


JOB SUMMARY ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

The essential functions of the job include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Design and provide the aero/thermal requirements for industrial gas turbine machine combustion components and systems to meet performance and design criteria, such as combustion stability, operability, emissions, pressure drop, life and cost.
  • Support commercial installation and operation of systems developed.
  • Utilize appropriate design/analysis tools, such as Performance Cycle decks, Flow circuit programs, Heat Transfer, CAD, Detailed Kinetics, CFD, Python, or Microsoft Excel modeling.
  • Support technical definition on engineering programs and use/direct appropriate use of design and analysis tools.
  • Support high pressure rig tests and engine field validation of prototype systems and commercial products designed and developed at PSM.
  • Support tool development.
  • Other duties as assigned.


MINIMUM REQUIREMENTSEducation & Training
  • Bachelorโ€™s Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Aeronautical or other relevant degree.
  • Masterโ€™s Degree and/or PhD preferred. Must have specialization in thermodynamics, heat transfer, fluid mechanics, heat transfer or combustion.
  • Must complete EHS assigned regulatory training for work area as described by PSMโ€™s EHS Training Matrix

Skills/Experience

  • 3+ years of experience in 1D/3D aerothermal modeling techniques
  • 3+ years of experience in 3D CFD modeling turbulent/multiphase reactive flow.
  • 1+ years of experience in Experimental set-ups and systems
  • 3+ years of experience in the aerothermal design, analysis, and manufacturing industrial/aircraft gas turbine engine components.
  • 3+ years of experience working with lean, premix combustion system designs and the tradeoffs between emissions and dynamics.
  • 1+ years of experience in applied knowledge of various manufacturing processes, including additive manufacturing techniques would be beneficial.
  • Strong verbal and written communication and interpersonal skills are required.
  • Strong analytical decision-making and organizational skills are required.
  • Ability to perform hands-on fieldwork is strongly desired.
  • Some travel may be required up to 15% domestic and international.
