What is a combat corner?

A Combat Corner refers to the designated area beside the fighting ring or cage where a fighter's coaches and support team stand during a combat sports match, such as boxing or mixed martial arts (MMA). Members of the combat corner, often called 'cornermen,' provide strategic advice, encouragement, and assistance between rounds, including first aid, hydration, and tactical instructions. The effectiveness of a combat corner can significantly impact a fighter's performance and outcome in a match. Cornermen must follow strict rules regarding what they can bring and do during a fight, and their role is crucial for a fighter's safety and success.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a combat corner?

To thrive as a Combat Sports Corner, you need a deep understanding of fight strategy, rules, and athlete safety, often backed by experience in martial arts or coaching certifications. Familiarity with athletic commission regulations, cutman techniques, and time management tools is typically required. Strong communication, quick decision-making, and calmness under pressure are crucial soft skills in this role. These skills ensure fighters receive effective guidance, maintain safety, and have the best chance for success during high-stakes bouts.

  • Conduct thorough psychosocial assessments, ensuring comprehensive understanding of clients' backgrounds, strengths, and areas for growth.
  • Facilitate individual, group, or family therapy sessions, tailoring approaches to meet the specific treatment plan established for each patient.
  • Collaborate with patients to develop initial treatment plans based on assessment outcomes, coordinating additional services and revising plans as necessary.
  • Maintain detailed documentation of therapy sessions in accordance with facility policies and professional standards, ensuring all records reflect the services provided.
  • Manage and uphold an assigned caseload, providing consistent and ongoing support for each patient.
  • Engage in treatment team meetings, collaborating with other mental health professionals to coordinate comprehensive care for our clients.
  • Exhibit a positive, empathetic, and professional attitude towards all clients, ensuring a welcoming and supportive atmosphere.
  • Address patient concerns promptly, advocating for their needs and working towards resolutions that enhance their care experience.
  • Uphold patient safety as the top priority throughout all interactions and interventions.
  • Perform additional tasks and responsibilities as required to support the mental health team and patient care initiatives.
Patient Population / Client Focus

This role involves working with a diverse clientele, including children, adolescents, and adults, offering a unique opportunity to make impactful changes across various age groups. The therapist will provide tailored therapeutic interventions that cater to your patients' specific life experiences and mental health challenges, fostering resilience and facilitating healing through targeted treatment strategies.

Qualifications
  • A Master's degree in Social Work, Psychology, Counseling, or a closely related field.
  • Current state or national licensure as a professional therapy provider is required; candidates must be licensed as LMFT, LPCC, or LCSW in the state of California.
  • Proven capability and experience in working with a diverse population, including adults, children, and adolescents.
Preferred Experience
  • Experience in remote counseling or teletherapy settings is a plus.
  • Expertise in specific therapeutic modalities or interventions that align with our holistic and patient-centered approach.
  • Familiarity with EMR (Electronic Medical Records) systems for maintaining client documentation and records.
Compensation and Benefits
  • Competitive salary ranging from USD 80,000 to 100,000 annually, commensurate with experience and qualifications.
  • Comprehensive benefits package, including medical, dental, and vision coverage.
  • Paid parental leave, enabling employees to balance professional responsibilities with family commitments.
  • A generous vacation policy of three weeks, supporting work/life balance and personal well-being.
  • Annual stock award opportunities, providing a stake in the growth and success of the organization.
  • A collegial work environment that emphasizes collaboration and mutual support among colleagues.
