Ferguson Construction (FC) is a regionally established General Contractor that has been in business for over 100 years. FC has vast experience in the heavy and light industrial, commercial, healthcare, and institutional markets. Ferguson offers construction phase services under all contractual methods, including general contracting, design-build, and design-assist. In addition, we offer self-perform construction services including concrete, masonry, steel erection, carpentry, hardware/doors, drywall and acoustical ceilings

Position Overview:

We're seeking a highly-driven, dynamic, motivated Commercial Construction Carpenter to join our dynamic team in Columbus, Ohio.

The Carpenter role constructs, erects, installs, and repairs structures and fixtures of wood, plywood, and wallboard, utilizing carpenter's hand tools and power tools, and conforming to local building codes.

Responsibilities:

  • Study blueprints, sketches, or building plans for information pertaining to the type of material required. Studies specifications to plan procedures for construction on the basis of starting and completion times and staffing requirements for carpentry trade.
  • Prepare layout, using rule, framing square, and calipers.
  • Marks cutting and assembly lines on materials to prescribed measurements, using saws, chisels, and planes.
  • Assembles cut and shaped materials and fastens them together with nails, dowel pins, or glue.
  • Verifies trueness of structure with plumb bob and carpenter's level.
  • Erects framework for structures and lays sub-flooring.
  • Builds stairs and lays out and installs partitions and cabinetwork.
  • Applies shock absorbing, sound deadening, and decorative paneling to ceilings and walls.
  • Responsible for production and quality of millwork, trim metal studs, drywall, and acoustic ceilings.
  • Fits and installs prefabricated window frames, doors, door frames, weather stripping, interior and exterior trim, and finish hardware, such as locks.
  • Erects scaffolding and ladders for assembling structures above ground level.
  • Fits and nails sheathing on outer walls and roofs of buildings.
  • Installs door and window bucks in designated positions in building framework, and braces them with boards, nailed to framework.
  • Manage small special projects.

Skills and Qualifications:

  • Ability to understand directions and read blueprints.
  • Ability to solve mathematical problems quickly and accurately.
  • Must be able to lift and carry objects weighing up to 50 pounds and occasionally more.
  • Must be able to use arms and hands to reach for, handle, and manipulate objects.
  • Must be able to safely work with sharp tools or power equipment.
  • Must be able stand or walk for long periods.
  • Must be able to read and understand measuring tools and levels.

Experience:

  • 2+ years of carpentry experience is preferred.
  • High School diploma or GED.
