Job description

We are seeking a Medical-Surgical Telemetry Nursing Assistant, also referred to as a Med-Surg Tele Nursing Assistant.  The Med-Surg/Tele Nursing Assistant provides basic patient care, monitoring vital signs, supporting mobility, and ensuring patient safety for adults recovering from surgeries or illnesses while on heart monitors. They play a critical role in observing patients, reporting changes, and maintaining a safe, supportive environment to promote recovery.  

Shift’s Available: Nights

Hours: 12-hour shifts: 7p - 7a

Employment Type: Per Diem (PD / PRN) 

Location: Riverview Regional Medical Center – Gadsden, AL

Essential Duties and Responsibilities (includes, but not limited to): 

  • Basic patient care: help patients with activities of daily living (ADLs) like bathing, dressing, grooming, toileting, and eating 
  • Vital signs monitoring: take and record blood pressure, heart rate, temperature, respiratory rate, and oxygen saturation 
  • Mobility assistance: help patients get in and out of bed, walk, or use assistive devices. 
  • EKG lead maintenance: ensure telemetry monitors (heart monitors) are properly connected and functioning — though Certified Nursing Assistant’s (CNA’s) don't usually interpret heart rhythms, they might recognize when alarms go off and immediately alert registered nurses 
  • Observation: monitor patients for any physical changes (shortness of breath, chest pain, altered mental status) and quickly notifying the nursing staff 

Education and Work Experience

Before we go any further, we do have some deal-breakers. You must have: 

  • Current BLS (AHA) within 30 days of hire and maintain current
  • Possesses knowledge of Medical Terminology
  • Current Behavioral Violence Prevention (BVP) certificate or within 6 months of hire and maintain current

Additional Qualifications That Are a Plus: 

  • Current Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) certificate
  • Minimum six months previous experience in an acute care hospital or physicians office
