What does a Colombia engineer do?

A Colombia Engineer typically refers to an engineer who works in Colombia or is of Colombian origin, specializing in fields such as civil, mechanical, electrical, or software engineering. Their responsibilities include designing, developing, and implementing technical solutions to meet the needs of local industries, infrastructure, and communities. They must also ensure projects comply with Colombian regulations and standards while considering the unique environmental and economic challenges of the region. Collaboration with multidisciplinary teams and continuous professional development are also important aspects of the role.

What are some common challenges faced by engineers working on projects in Colombia and how can they be addressed?

Engineers working in Colombia often encounter challenges such as navigating complex regulatory frameworks, adapting to varying infrastructure standards, and collaborating across diverse teams. Effective communication in both Spanish and English is essential, as many projects involve international stakeholders. Additionally, understanding local environmental and cultural considerations can help engineers design solutions that are both practical and sustainable. Building strong relationships with local authorities and staying up-to-date on industry regulations can greatly enhance project success.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Colombia engineer, and why are they important?

To thrive as an engineer in Colombia, a solid background in engineering principles, a relevant bachelor’s degree, and professional registration (such as with the Colombian Professional Council of Engineering) are typically required. Familiarity with technical tools like AutoCAD, project management software, and local engineering standards is essential. Strong problem-solving, teamwork, and communication skills help engineers excel in multidisciplinary and multicultural environments. These competencies ensure engineers can deliver effective, compliant, and innovative solutions to meet Colombia’s infrastructure and industry needs.

About the Role

Quvia is seeking a Sales Engineer to lead the technical lifecycle of network and connectivity solutions for customers across the Energy & Shipping vertical in the US region. This is a customer-facing engineering role that blends deep technical expertise with commercial awareness, supporting the full solution lifecycle—from requirements discovery, design, and proof of concept through deployment, validation, and post-implementation optimization.

You will serve as the technical lead and subject matter expert for Quvia’s products and network solutions. Working in close partnership with Sales, Product, and Engineering teams, you’ll ensure solutions are robust, scalable, and aligned to each customer’s operational and business needs. This role is ideal for someone who thrives at the intersection of engineering and customer engagement and is motivated by bringing technically elegant, high-performance solutions to production.

What You'll Do

  • Lead all technical phases of the customer journey, including discovery, system design, deployment planning, and post-launch optimization.
  • Act as a senior technical advisor to customers and partners, architecting IP-based and satellite-enabled network solutions tailored to their requirements.
  • Conduct in-depth technology assessments, feasibility analyses, and proof-of-concept testing for proposed designs.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional internal teams—Sales, Product, Engineering, and Operations—to ensure solution integrity and seamless handoffs from design through execution.
  • Develop detailed technical documentation, design specifications, configuration guides, and performance evaluations.
  • Support deployments by providing technical oversight, troubleshooting support, and validation testing during implementation and go-live phases.
  • Analyze post-sales system performance data and customer feedback to identify optimization and future improvement opportunities.
  • Capture evolving technical requirements and field feedback to inform product roadmaps, network design refinements, and emerging technology adoption.
  • Participate in technical presentations, workshops, and customer training to build technical understanding and system adoption.
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of network infrastructure technologies, wireless communications, satellite systems, and IP networking best practices.

What You’ll Need

  • Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent experience) in Electrical, Telecommunications, or Systems Engineering, or a related technical field.
  • At least 5 years of hands-on experience in telecommunications, mobile networks, or broadcast systems engineering.
  • Strong understanding of digital communication systems, RF signal theory, IP network design, and traffic management (QoS).
  • Experience deploying or managing VSAT platforms, IP routing, and transmission technologies (unicast/multicast, VoIP, IPsec).
  • Familiarity with wireless communications systems including Wi-Fi and cellular architectures.
  • Proven experience across both pre- and post-sales technical activities, with direct ownership of system design, deployment, and performance outcomes.
  • Excellent technical communication and documentation skills, able to convey complex engineering concepts clearly to both technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Comfort operating in multicultural, customer-facing environments, with the ability to travel up to 20% across the US.
  • High attention to detail and a solution-oriented mindset aimed at achieving long-term customer success.

What We'll Offer

  • Connectivity and content engineering and business knowledge
  • Opportunity to work in cross-functional teams
  • Competitive Salary
  • 401(k) with 100% match up to 4.0% after one year of service
  • Competitive health benefits, including optical and dental
  • Life Insurance
  • Performance Bonus
  • Flexible paid time off policy
  • Monthly Phone Allowance
