General Summary
The Odessa College Groundskeeper is responsible for supporting the College's mission by maintaining a safe, and welcoming campus environment for students, employees, and visitors. This position contributes to the overall appearance and functionality of the campus through a commitment to professionalism, teamwork, and quality service while ensuring that the College grounds are maintained to a high standard of appearance and functionality.
Specific Position Duties
  • Perform semi-skilled grounds maintenance work involving the care, cultivation, and preservation of lawns, trees, shrubs, hedges, flower beds, and other landscaped areas to maintain a safe, clean, and attractive campus environment.
  • Operate and maintain grounds equipment and tools to mow, edge, trim, prune, weed, water, and remove debris, ensuring that campus grounds are well-maintained and present a professional appearance.
  • Operate various vehicles and machinery, including but not limited to push mowers, riding mowers, weed eaters, edgers, and various hand tools.
  • Assist with campus set-up events as needed.
  • Deliver, haul, and move equipment and perform related duties.
  • Assist with a variety of Facilities Department projects and perform related duties as assigned by the supervisor, including basic plumbing repairs, HVAC support, irrigation system maintenance and repairs, painting, construction projects, basic mechanical work, and general building and grounds maintenance.

Minimum Qualifications
  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Valid driver's license.
  • Ability to climb, balance, bend, kneel, and crouch to gain access to plants and landscaped areas.
  • Ability to work outdoors in various weather and climate conditions.
