Job description

Accounts Receivable (AR) Collections Specialist: Rockford, Illinois
Our customer in Rockford, Illinois is seeking motivated individuals to join their team. We’re recruiting AR Specialists to work full-time on 1st shift. As an AR Specialist, you will be responsible for reducing aged receivables, recovering outstanding payments, resolving account discrepancies, and helping improve the overall health of the accounts receivable portfolio.
This position is ideal for an accounting professional who enjoys problem solving, customer communication, and driving collections results. The role is initially temporary and project-focused, with the potential to become a permanent position based on business needs and individual performance.
Responsibilities of the AR Specialists:
  • Review and analyze aged accounts receivable balances and prioritize collection activities.
  • Contact customers regarding overdue invoices through phone, email, and written correspondence.
  • Investigate and resolve payment discrepancies, short payments, unapplied cash, missing remittances, and disputed invoices.
  • Work closely with customers and internal departments to remove barriers to payment.
  • Reconcile customer accounts and maintain detailed collection notes.
  • Research and recover missing or delayed payments.
  • Monitor customer payment commitments and follow up to ensure timely resolution.
  • Assist with cash application and account reconciliation activities.
  • Prepare accounts receivable aging reports and provide updates on collection progress.
  • Maintain accurate records of collection efforts and customer communications.
  • Identify opportunities for process improvements that strengthen AR controls and collections effectiveness.
  • Support other accounting and administrative projects as assigned.
AR Specialists Requirements and Qualifications:
  • 2+ years of Accounts Receivable, Collections, Credit, or Accounting experience.
  • Strong customer service, communication, and negotiation skills.
  • Experience reconciling accounts and resolving billing discrepancies.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Excel and other Microsoft Office applications.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Experience in manufacturing, industrial, or B2B environments preferred.
  • Experience with Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central or similar ERP systems preferred.
  • Knowledge of accounting principles related to accounts receivable and cash application preferred.
Pay for AR Specialists: Starting at $32-$36/hour.
