Job Summary
The Collateral Manager manages the daily needs of the portfolio collateral including electronic records, daily reporting, LTV calculations, security documentation, periodic reviews, and other collateral monitoring and operational needs as identified by the Managing Director. Under minimal supervision, responsible for obtaining documentation of collateral values from various sources, evaluating LTV, identifying non-compliance, and reporting the findings to management, working within guidelines established by the company. Works with Portfolio & Operations Managers of each portfolio in developing and maintaining processes and procedures for annual and quarterly reviews. Assists with operational aspects of perfecting and releasing collateral within the guidelines of the company and other interested parties. This position must have an understanding of aspects of the business, risk, compliance, and regulations pertaining to life insurance lending and securities backed lending. Performs other projects and duties as assigned.
Essential Functions, Duties and Responsibilities
  • Actively monitor and accurately manage all collateral in the Life Insurance Premium Finance (LIPF) and Cash Surrender Value (CSV) portfolios, and Securities Backed Line of Credit (SBLOC).
  • Actively manage the Monitored Collateral Portfolio (MCP) for bank reporting of collateral quality.
  • Ensure continuous compliance with loan-to-value requirements. Document and remedy any exceptions to policy.
  • Proactively identify outstanding policy loans and initiate payoffs, documenting their completion.
  • Review and track requests for partial and full releases of excess collateral, and collateral substitutions and additions in the LIPF and SBLOC portfolios. Participate in the collateral release process for renewals, refinances and paid off/closed loans in the CSV portfolio.
  • Monitor and manage holds on cash held as collateral.
  • Responsible for the timely completion of CSV and LIPF Annual Reviews of collateral, including Loan Continuations, and Quarterly Reviews of securities accounts held as collateral.
  • Support Asset Quality reporting and provide collateral analysis for Asset Quality (AQ) meetings. Assist with creating USPF monthly reports, initiating transfers to the Special Assets Division (SAD) and liquidating collateral for loan payoff.
  • Establish and develop relationships with life insurance carriers and securities firms. Request statements and other documents as needed. Communicate effectively with agents and advisors, service representatives, and operations/processing center and back-office staff via email and phone calls.

Required Knowledge, Skills and Competencies
  • Ability to build and maintain Excel files, sort data, use formulas and functions.
  • Ability to utilize and modify reports in PowerBI and nCino (SalesForce).
  • Ability to effectively and persuasively express self, using language and grammar in a professional manner.
  • Ability to prioritize and multi-task in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong organizational skills, detail oriented, efficient and ability to maintain a high degree of accuracy.
  • Strong leadership skills with a demonstrated career orientation.
  • Ability to work effectively with other disciplines and all levels of management/staff throughout the organization.

Industry and Work Experience
  • 3 - 5 years of experience in processing, operations and/or servicing.
  • 1 - 3 years of experience in life insurance lending/CSV loans, preferred.
  • 1 - 3 years of experience as a team lead in an operational capacity, preferred.

Academic
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent combination of education and experience required.
