Job description

Overview

Responsible for the structural engineering design of self-storage and related building systems. This role requires direct experience with cold-formed steel and other structural systems. The candidate must have a working knowledge of Autodesk AutoCAD and Revit and will contribute to developing and maintaining company-wide Revit standards.

Responsibilities
  • Review blueprints, construction details, and sales contracts to produce accurate construction documents and bills of material.
  • Perform structural analysis and engineering design for self-storage buildings using cold-formed steel and other structural systems (e.g., hot-rolled steel, concrete, and masonry).
  • Ensure code compliance by interpreting and applying model building codes and jurisdictional requirements.
  • Review and coordinate drawings produced by Drafters and BIM Technicians.
  • Develop and uphold Revit standards for the engineering department; support implementation across design workflows.
  • Support drafting, manufacturing, quality assurance, and project planning teams as needed.
  • Handle project-specific issues, RFIs, and field-related challenges in collaboration with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Manage multiple projects concurrently, delivering accurate and timely engineering output.
  • Manage internal and external clients and communicate project expectations and progress effectively.
  • Guide and mentor junior engineers, drafters, and Revit technicians to support team development and design consistency.
  • Contribute technical expertise throughout the full product life cycle-from concept through construction.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications

JOB SPECIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor's degree in Structural or Civil Engineering (required); Master's degree preferred.
  • 10 years of relevant structural engineering experience.
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license strongly preferred or ability to obtain within 1 year of hire.
  • Structural Engineer (SE) license is a plus.
  • Strong understanding of cold-formed steel, hot-rolled steel, concrete, and masonry structural systems.
  • Proficiency in Autodesk AutoCAD and Autodesk Revit is required.
  • Experience contributing to or developing company Revit standards is preferred.
  • Solid knowledge of structural design principles and relevant codes (IBC, ASCE, AISI, AISC, etc.).
  • Ability to read and interpret construction drawings and specifications.
  • Knowledge of material take-offs is a plus.
  • Excellent critical thinking, problem-solving, and communication skills (verbal and written).
  • Self-directed with strong organizational and project management skills.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook).
