Responsibilities may include coordinating shipments, monitoring temperature controls, and complying with regulatory standards. This role is crucial in industries where product integrity depends on strict temperature management.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive in cold chain logistics?

To thrive in Cold Chain Logistics, you need expertise in supply chain management, inventory control, and temperature-sensitive goods handling, often supported by a degree in logistics or related fields. Familiarity with cold chain tracking technologies, temperature monitoring systems, and relevant certifications such as GDP (Good Distribution Practice) or HACCP is highly beneficial. Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and effective communication are valuable soft skills for this role. These qualifications ensure the safe and compliant transportation and storage of perishable goods, minimizing loss and maintaining product quality.

What are some typical challenges faced in cold chain logistics, and how are they addressed?

Cold Chain Logistics professionals often encounter challenges such as maintaining strict temperature controls during transportation, managing time-sensitive deliveries, and responding to unexpected equipment issues or delays. These challenges are addressed by closely monitoring shipments using advanced temperature tracking devices, adhering to regulatory protocols, and employing contingency plans for disruptions. Collaboration with carriers, warehouse teams, and quality assurance staff is crucial to proactively solve problems and ensure consistent product integrity. The fast-paced and detail-oriented environment rewards individuals who can stay organized, communicate clearly, and act swiftly under pressure.

Position Summary

We are seeking an experienced Solutions Architect / Cold Chain Logistics Engineer to design, optimize, and scale our warehousing, transportation, and distribution operations. In this role, you will build end-to-end operational workflows specifically engineered for perishable freight (produce, floral, proteins). You will lead the design of cold storage facilities, cross-docking procedures, temperature-controlled transport routing, and logistics software integration to ensure zero temperature loss and maximum shelf-life preservation.

Key Responsibilities

Warehouse & Facility Design:

Design optimal warehouse layouts, rack configurations, and temperature-zoned staging areas for rapid cross-docking and cold storage.

Transportation & Distribution Strategy:

Engineer cold-chain distribution networks integrating air freight, ocean reefers, drayage, and final-mile refrigerated transport.

Map out time-sensitive delivery schedules and carrier routing to minimize transit times and reduce spoilage risk.

Process Engineering & Technology:

Select, configure, and implement logistics technology, including WMS, TMS, and real-time IoT temperature logging/telemetry.

Analyze operational KPIs (throughput, dock-to-stock times, temperature compliance) to identify bottlenecks and continuous improvement opportunities.

Regulatory & Quality Compliance:

Ensure full compliance with FDA, USDA, HACCP, IATA CEIV Fresh, and OSHA regulations.

Establish standard operating procedures (SOPs) for cold chain integrity during customs holds and airport/seaport transfers.

Qualifications & Requirements

Experience: 5+ years of operational design, logistics engineering, or cold-chain management experience within a freight forwarding or 3PL environment.

Industry Expertise: Deep domain knowledge of perishable freight handling, cold storage operations, and temperature-controlled freight movements.

Technical Proficiency: Hands-on experience implementing or configuring Warehouse Management Systems (WMS) and Transportation Management Systems (TMS).

Education: Bachelor's degree in Industrial Engineering, Supply Chain Management, Logistics, or a related field (or equivalent practical experience).

Skills: Strong analytical, data modeling, and process mapping abilities; bilingual capabilities (English/Spanish) are highly preferred in the South Florida market.
