About the Role
As an Automation Quality Engineer - Device & OS Testing, you will make an impact by ensuring the quality, reliability, and performance of software and connected devices through test automation, black-box testing, and end-to-end validation. You will be a valued member of the Quality Engineering team and work collaboratively with software engineers, quality engineers, and cross-functional stakeholders to deliver high-quality technology solutions.
In this role, you will:
• Perform integration, black-box, and end-to-end testing across software and device ecosystems.
• Design, develop, execute, and maintain automated test suites for functional and system validation.
• Analyze test failures, review logs, isolate root causes, and drive issue resolution.
• Configure, provision, and maintain devices and test environments supporting automation execution.
• Partner with engineering and quality teams to improve product quality, test coverage, and release readiness.
Work Model
We strive to provide flexibility wherever possible. Based on this role's business requirements, this is an onsite position requiring 5 days a week in a client office in Cupertino, CA. What You Need to Have to Be Considered
• 6+ years of experience in Software Quality Engineering, Test Automation, Automation Quality Engineering, or related disciplines.
• Strong programming expertise in Swift, Objective-C, Python, or Java with working knowledge of Xcode.
• Experience performing black-box testing and end-to-end functional validation.
• Hands-on experience configuring, provisioning, and managing physical devices in a lab environment.
• Strong debugging, log analysis, root cause investigation, and defect isolation skills.
• Experience designing and maintaining automated test frameworks and test suites.
• Ability to independently manage priorities, drive deliverables, and communicate effectively.
These Will Help You Stand Out
• Experience testing operating system features and devices.
• XCTest and iOS automation testing experience.
• Shell scripting skills and ability to modify or build applications using Xcode.
• Experience testing backend services, APIs, and distributed systems.
• Knowledge of telemetry, logging, analytics, and performance monitoring concepts.
Candidate Note: This position requires working with physical devices in a lab environment, including device setup, provisioning, configuration, troubleshooting, and manual testing activities. Experience with OS/device testing and Swift development is highly preferred and interviews may include a live coding assessment.
Salary and Other Compensation:

The annual salary for this position is between $53,477- $92,500 depending on experience and other qualifications of the successful candidate.
This position is also eligible for Cognizant's discretionary annual incentive program, based on performance and subject to the terms of Cognizant's applicable plans.
