About the Role

The Shop Foreman plays a key leadership role in Metro Trailer Leasing’s branch operations by overseeing the daily workflow of the trailer maintenance and repair shop. This position is responsible for coordinating technicians, prioritizing repair work, maintaining shop productivity, and ensuring trailers are repaired safely, correctly, and efficiently.

The Shop Foreman works closely with branch management, dispatch, rental, and operations teams to keep equipment moving and minimize downtime for customers. This role requires strong hands-on knowledge of trailer repairs, preventive maintenance, DOT requirements, shop safety, and team leadership. By leading the shop team and maintaining high repair standards, the Shop Foreman directly supports Metro Trailer Leasing’s fleet readiness, customer service, and overall branch performance.

Minimum Qualifications
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in trailer maintenance, diesel/truck repair, fleet maintenance, or a related mechanical field.
  • Prior supervisory or lead technician experience preferred.
  • Strong working knowledge of trailer repair, brakes, suspension, doors, flooring, electrical systems, lights, tires, body work and preventive maintenance.
  • Familiarity with DOT inspection requirements and trailer safety standards.
  • Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced shop environment and manage multiple repair priorities.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience working in a trailer leasing, rental, transportation, or fleet maintenance operation.
  • Technical or vocational training in diesel technology, trailer repair, welding, or related fields.
  • Experience with work order systems, maintenance software, or fleet management systems.
  • Welding and fabrication experience.
  • Knowledge of OSHA safety standards and shop compliance requirements.
  • Basic computer skills, including email, work orders, and Microsoft Office.
Responsibilities
  • Supervise and coordinate the daily activities of trailer technicians and shop personnel.
  • Assign, prioritize, and monitor repair work to ensure trailers are completed safely, accurately, and on schedule.
  • Inspect trailers and review repair needs, including brakes, lights, suspension, doors, floors, roofs, tires, and general trailer condition.
  • Ensure all preventive maintenance and DOT inspection work is completed properly and documented accurately.
  • Work with branch management and operations teams to prioritize customer needs, rental-ready equipment, and down trailers.
  • Maintain shop productivity by monitoring workflow, technician performance, and repair turnaround times.
  • Train, mentor, and support technicians to improve skill level, repair quality, and adherence to company procedures.
  • Monitor parts, tools, and shop supplies to help prevent delays and maintain an organized work environment.
  • Ensure shop equipment, tools, and service vehicles are maintained in safe working condition.
  • Enforce company safety policies, OSHA standards, and proper repair procedures in the shop and yard.
  • Review work orders for accuracy, completeness, and proper documentation before closing.
  • Communicate repair status, equipment issues, and staffing needs to management.
  • Help maintain a clean, safe, and efficient shop environment.
