Job description

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Primary duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:
Welcomes guests by determining their coffee interests and needs.
Educates guests by presenting and explaining the coffee drink menu; answering questions.
Sells coffees and coffee grinding and brewing equipment by explaining differences in coffee beans and coffee preparation machines; demonstrating how brewing equipment operates.
Prepares and sells coffee drinks by following prescribed recipes and preparation techniques for coffee drinks, such as, expresso, expresso lungo, caffe latte, and cappuccino.
Maintains inventories by replenishing coffee bean supply; stocking coffee brewing equipment; maintaining supplies, pastries, and cookies for coffee bar. Advises Manager of inventory and par levels, assisting with placing orders as needed.
Keeps equipment operating by following operating instructions; troubleshooting breakdowns; maintaining supplies; performing preventive maintenance; calling for repairs. Ensures Manager is aware of any repairs or equipment issues.
Maintains safe and healthy work environment by following organization standards and sanitation regulations. Ensures staff is also following safety standards.
Improves quality results by studying, evaluating, and re-designing processes; implementing changes; maintaining and improving the appearance of the store and coffee bar.
Enhances coffee shop reputation by accepting ownership for accomplishing new and different requests; exploring opportunities to add value to job accomplishments.
Trains new baristas and ensures they are following Starbucks and company service standards.
Assists the Manager in assigning work/tasks; gives feedback on team member performance to the Manager.
Creates deployment plans for business needs by assigning Baristas to positions and creates break schedules.
Puts away orders daily.
Assists Manager with refunds/voids, breakdown of store for deep cleaning, and preparation for seasonal launches.
Assists Manager with communications to team and upper management (Promotions, Shift Notes, etc.).
Completes required certifications through Starbucks (Barista Basics, Barista Training, and Daily Operations).
Assigns daily, weekly, and monthly cleaning tasks to Baristas and participates in these cleaning tasks.
Any other duties as assigned within the scope of this position.

KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES
Consistently exhibits courteous, respectful, and appropriate communications and presents information in a concise and understandable format.
Contributes to a positive work environment, fosters collaboration and provides a tangible contribution.
Meet requirements of regular attendance in order to effectively complete job responsibilities in a timely manner.
Ability of simple reading, writing, math, and task completion skills are required.
Must have the following skills: compiling, coordination, following instructions, memorization, problem solving, independent judgment, and decision making.
Flexible to work all shifts including holidays, nights, and weekend hours as business needs dictate.
Must be a minimum of 16 years of age.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
Previous barista experience is required or any combination of education, training, or experience that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.
Must have completed introductory period as a GSR barista.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS
While performing the duties of this job, the team member is constantly standing, frequently walking, reaching overhead, bending over, crouching, kneeling and balancing during the duration of their shift.
Must be able to push/pull up to 50lbs occasionally.
The team member will frequently have repetitive use of both hands and occasional light and firm/strong grasping motions as well as finger dexterity.
Constant use of vision abilities is required including distance, depth perception, field of vision, and color vision.

WORK ENVIRONMENT
Work performed indoors alone and frequently with and around others. Team Member will perform work face-to-face including verbal contact with others on extended shifts around computer equipment and other mechanical devices.
The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
Team Member may be exposed to slippery surfaces, fumes/odor and secondhand smoke.
