Job Title: Cardiovascular Technologist I

Ability to react quickly to emergency patient care situations.
Effective communication skills in verbal and written English.
Description:
The Cardiovascular Technologist I is a professional training to assist during diagnostic and therapeutic invasive cardiovascular procedures.
He/She will train to assist the physician during procedures and operate specialized equipment safely and efficiently.
The Technologist is responsible for maintaining sterile technique during procedures and assisting the Cath Lab Manager/Director in maintaining a safe and efficient environment.
The focus is primarily on adult patients aged eighteen to sixty-five and geriatric patients over the age of sixty-five.
The Cardiovascular Technologist I may participate in call rotation once appropriately oriented and checked off on clinical and operational competencies.
Core Responsibilities and Essential Functions:
Will train to assist the physician in performing facility-specific cardiovascular catheterization and electrophysiology procedures.
Will train to function in monitoring, scrubbing, or circulating roles.
Able to use critical thinking skills effectively.
Works in conjunction with interventional cardiologists, electrophysiologists, and cardiologists.
Will train to prep and educate the patient for procedures.
Demonstrates and understands sterile technique.
Job Responsibilities:
Must be flexible with hours to meet departmental needs.
Able to work scheduled hours and participate in on-call hours as needed.
Knows existing lines of communication and authority.
Handles communications properly.
Introduces self to patient and/or guardian utilizing proper scripting.
Transports patients as needed.
Provides privacy and comfort for patients and customers.
Assists with maintaining departmental records and compliance with standards and regulations.
Learns how to enter data into the cath lab log and verify accuracy and completeness.
Completes necessary paperwork.
Answers departmental phones appropriately.
Maintains stock levels and monitors outdates.
Maintains current License and BLS/ACLS certifications.
Works as a team with other staff to achieve the best possible outcomes.
Prepares necessary supplies and equipment for procedures.
Quality and Patient Safety:
Verifies patient identity using two patient identifiers.
Verifies the front of the patient chart for same/similar name stickers.
Verifies written orders and consents, seeking clarification if orders or consents are unclear.
Uses and understands preprocedural verification/forms.
Understands and complies with site/side marking when indicated.
Patient Education:
Will train to provide education to patients, families, and support systems.
Will learn to offer patient education related to procedures and post-procedure care instructions as needed.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Complies with all organizational policies, standards of work, and code of conduct.
Required Minimum Education:
High School Diploma or GED is required.
An Associate's Degree in Health Science is preferred.
Required Minimum Experience:
Minimum of 1 year of relevant experience in a medical setting or specific experience as an LPN, RT, or EMT/Paramedic with a high school diploma.
Required Minimum Skills:
Basic knowledge of cardiovascular catheterization or electrophysiology procedures, patient positioning, exposure factors, and radiation protection.
Basic knowledge of electrocardiography and cardiac anatomy and physiology is preferred.
Understanding of hemodynamics and electrophysiology equipment is preferred.
Ability to maintain effective working relationships with colleagues, patients, families, and physicians.
A positive attitude is essential.
