The choice depends on your skill level and career goals.

What is a coder internship?

A coder internship is a temporary position designed for students or recent graduates to gain practical experience in computer programming. Interns work under the guidance of experienced developers, contributing to real projects, writing code, debugging, and learning industry best practices. This role helps interns build technical skills, understand professional workflows, and often serves as a pathway to full-time employment in software development.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a coder intern, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Coder Intern, you need a solid understanding of programming fundamentals, problem-solving abilities, and coursework or experience in computer science or related fields. Familiarity with languages like Python, Java, or JavaScript and tools such as Git and development environments is commonly expected. Strong communication, eagerness to learn, and teamwork skills help interns stand out and contribute effectively. These skills ensure interns can quickly adapt, collaborate on projects, and make meaningful contributions to software development teams.

What types of projects and technologies will I typically work with during a coder internship?

As a Coder Intern, you'll often work on real-world projects under the supervision of experienced developers, contributing to tasks such as debugging, writing code for specific features, and participating in code reviews. The technologies you use may vary by company, but commonly include languages like Python, Java, or JavaScript, and tools such as Git for version control. You'll also gain experience with software development methodologies like Agile and collaborate closely with other interns, developers, and sometimes designers or QA testers. This environment provides valuable exposure to both technical and teamwork skills essential for a future career in software development.

Job description

Who is Sonar?
ย
Sonar helps prevent code quality and code security issues from reaching production, amplifies developers' productivity in concert with AI assistants, and improves the developer experience with streamlined workflows. Sonar analyzes all code, regardless of who writes it - your internal team, genAI, or third parties - resulting in more secure, reliable, and maintainable applications. Rooted in the open source community, Sonar's solutions support over 30 programming languages, frameworks, and infrastructure technologies. Today, Sonar is used by +7M developers and 400K organizations worldwide, including the DoD, Microsoft, NASA, MasterCard, Siemens, and T-Mobile.
ย
We believe in developing great products that are supported by great internal teams and a strong culture.ย  We are highly committed to and obsessed with the company, users, each other, and our open source community. We have high standards and hold each other accountable for acting with positivity, dedication, thoughtfulness, empathy, and passion daily.ย
ย
We are deliberate with our decisions with high clarity of intention. At the same time, we feel extreme urgency and move forward quickly.ย
ย
And lastly, we are highly effective and operationally efficient. We operate collectively as One Team to accomplish our goals.
ย
At Sonar, CODE is more than just an acronym - it's a mindset that defines daily operations.ย
ย
Why You Should Apply:ย
ย
At Sonar, we're a group of brilliant, motivated, and driven professionals working hard to help supercharge developers to build better, faster. Sonar helps to continuously improve code quality and code security while reducing developer toil. This means that developers can focus on doing more of what they love and less of what they don't. Our solutions don't just solve symptoms of problems - we help fix issues at the source - for all code, whether it's developer-written, AI-generated, or from third parties.
ย
We have a dynamic culture with employees worldwide and hub offices in the USA, Switzerland, the UK, Singapore, and Germany. Team members should be able to come to work every day, work on a product they are proud of, love what they do, and feel energized by their peers. With our roots deep in the open source community, we're all about the mission: supercharge developers to build better, faster.
ย
This is a year-long internship role, designed to provide continuous, immersive experience. The commitment will be structured as follows:
ย
-Summer Term (Approx. June-August): Full-time, 40 hours per week.
-Academic Year (Approx. September-May): Part-time, 15-20 hours per week, with a flexible schedule arranged to accommodate the student's class schedule.
ย
The Impact You Will Have:
ย
Sonar is on the hunt for a highly motivated and sharp college student to join our Purchase-to-Pay team as a Part-Time Hourly Intern for up to 20 hours per week during the academic school year and 40 hours per week over the summer.ย
ย
This isn't just any internship - it's a prime opportunity to dive deep into financial operations, gain real-world experience, and fast-track your understanding of critical business processes within a rapidly expanding company.
ย
What You Will Do Daily:
  • Processing Vendor Bills with Precision: Become an expert in handling and verifying incoming vendor invoices.
  • Strategic Stakeholder Communication: Collaborate directly with requestors to confirm the receipt of goods or services, ensuring seamless operations.
  • AI deployment:ย  Come deploy your AI knowledge into real world impact with a fast growing software companyย
  • Mastering the Financial Trifecta: Skillfully match vendor bills to corresponding purchase orders and goods received, optimizing our financial flow.
  • Proactive Problem-Solving: Identify and swiftly resolve any discrepancies, keeping our financial records spotless.
The Experience You Will Need:
  • Currently Enrolled and Driven: Pursuing a degree at an accredited college or university.ย ย
  • Tech-Savvy: Proficient in standard computer applications, especially the Microsoft Office Suite - your toolkit for success.
  • Exceptional Communicator: Possess outstanding written and verbal communication skills, crucial for internal and external interactions.
  • Detail-Oriented and Organized: Demonstrate strong organizational skills and an eagle eye for detail, ensuring accuracy in every task.
  • Independent and Collaborative: Thrive both independently and as a valuable team player.
  • An Innovative Thinker: Bring a proactive, problem-solving mindset to the table, ready to tackle challenges head-on.
Why You'll Love It Here:
  • Our culture and mission set us apart. We have a dynamic work culture that values respect and kindness and embraces the right to fail (and get right back up again!).ย
  • Great people make a great company. We value people skills as much as technical skills and strive to keep things friendly while still being passionate leaders in our domains.ย
  • We have a flexible work policy that includes 3 days in-office and 2 days work-from-home each week for those located near our office locations; some locations such as Dubai, India, Japan and Australia operate fully remotely.
  • We have a growth mindset. We love learning and believe continuous education is critical to our success. In an ever-changing industry, new skills are necessary, and we're happy to help our team acquire them.
  • As the leader in our field, our products and services are as strong as our internal team members.
  • We embrace transparency with regular meetings, cascading messages and updates on the growth and success of our organization.
ย
We Value Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion:
ย
At Sonar, we believe that our diversity is our strength. We are a global company that values and respects different backgrounds, perspectives, and cultures.
ย
We are committed to fostering a diverse and inclusive work environment where everyone feels valued and empowered to contribute their best. We are proud to be an equal opportunity employer and welcome all qualified applicants, regardless of race, color, religion, gender, gender identity or expression, sexual orientation, national origin, genetics, disability, age, or veteran status.
ย
All offers of employment at Sonar are contingent upon the precise results of a comprehensive background check and reference verification conducted before the start date.
ย
We do not currently support visa candidates in the US.ย
ย
Applications that are submitted through agencies or third party recruiters will not be considered.ย ย
ย

These tools assist our recruitment team but do not replace human judgment. Final hiring decisions are ultimately made by humans.
