As we continue to make strides to becoming the employer of choice, we are thrilled about the below employee benefit enhancements: Virginia Retirement System (VRS) Language Incentive Referral Bonus Tuition Assistance Program Description ** The maximum hiring compensation for this position is to not exceed a hourly rate of $33.00318/hour** The City of Richmond, Department of Planning & Development Review is currently seeking a Code Enforcement Inspector -Building, who must be able to demonstrate knowledge and experience with Virginia Building and Trade Codes. Additionally, the ideal candidate must be able to work independently in conducting a range of trade specific inspections on residential and commercial buildings as well as managing specific projects related to these types of code inspections

Duties include but are not limited to Performs routine inspections of new construction, alteration, and repairs of buildings and other structures. Inspects commercial, residential, and industrial buildings to determine whether materials used meet code compliance. Prepares daily reports of inspections.

Logs all inspections on a daily basis and notifies contractors of any code violations. Submits reports of violations and issues written or verbal orders for correction of same. Makes re-inspection of premises to determine correction of violations.

Inspect new and existing buildings for building code compliance Assist contractors and customers with building code questions and city processes for permitting, plan review, and inspections Perform other related duties as required Note: Class description is intended to represent only the key areas of responsibilities; specific position assignments will vary depending on the business needs of the department. The employee may perform other duties of a similar nature or level subject to the needs of the department. This position is considered an Essential Personnel, which means that the incumbent is required to work when the City is closed due to public emergencies, critical or hazardous conditions or inclement weather.

This individual may be required to work nights, weekends, holidays or on-call, as needed. Qualifications, Special Certifications and Licenses KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES: Knowledge of standard work-unit specific tools/equipment used for construction, electrical work, etc. Virginia codes and ordinances; Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), Health and Safety Code Construction scheduling, practices, and methods Architectural design and construction methods.

Skill in computer proficiency including Microsoft Office Suite. Ability to carry out oral and written instructions; Time Management Exercise independent and sound judgment, discretion, and initiative in interpreting and applying established procedures, guidelines, and rules Manage situations requiring fairness and firmness. MINIMUM TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE: High School Diploma or G.E.D
