Job description

GENERAL DESCRIPTIONย 

Under general supervision of the Division Manager - Code Compliance Manager, the property maintenance inspector will inspect residential and commercial structures to ensure compliance with the property maintenance code and other city of Abilene adopted codes and ordinances; will perform a variety of clerical and administrative duties in support of the property maintenance and condemnation program.ย

Property Maintenance Inspector Iย 

Performs property maintenance inspections of single and multi-family and commercial structures as assigned.ย 

Issue notices of violations and citations; prepare documentation and evidence for adjudication and court hearings.ย 

Safelyย operatesย a city vehicle dailyย in order toย perform inspection duties.ย 

Responsible forย complying withย all City policies and procedures.ย ย Ensure compliance with all adopted codes, ordinances, and regulations.ย 

Research property ownership, land characteristics and occupancy statusย utilizingย internal and external data systems, internetย resourcesย and County records, when needed.ย ย Research codes and ordinances for other city departments and customers.ย 

Respond to public inquiries and complaints in a courteous manner.ย ย Investigate and resolve complaints in an efficient andย timelyย manner.ย 

Property Maintenance Inspector IIย 

Assistsย in the organization and publishing of packets for the Boards of Building Standards, and other meetings.ย 

Coordinate property maintenance efforts with other associated Abilene divisions and provideย accurateย and relevantย assistanceย programs.ย 

Prepares public hearing notices for newspaper publication.ย 

Property Maintenance Inspector IIIย 

Participate andย assistย in adjudication and court hearings; inspect conditions including property and building maintenance.ย 

Present and provide recommendations to the Board of Building Standards.ย 

Manage caseloads includingย maintainingย electronic database files and creating reportsย regardingย inspection activities and findings.ย

Experience:ย 

One (1)ย yearย experience in code enforcement or building inspections isย required.ย 

Education/Training:ย 

A high school diploma or GED certification isย required.ย 

License or Certificate:ย 

A valid Texas driverโ€™s license, the ability to obtain one within 90 days of employment, or a military waiver isย required.ย 

A Code Enforcement Officer certification from Texas Department of Licensing and Regulations (TDLR),ย 

ย Orย 

An International Code Council (ICC) Residential Building Inspector certification isย required.ย 

Property Maintenance Inspector IIย 

ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย All Property Maintenance Inspector I requirements plus:ย

Two (2) yearsโ€™ experience isย required.ย
