Job description

Cockram Construction, founded in 1861, is an international construction services business, headquartered in Melbourne, Australia. Worldwide our locations include the USA, Australia, China, India and New Zealand. In the US, we provide top level professional services on our client sites in Pharmaceutical/Bio-Tech and the Data Center industries.

Role Overview

We are seeking a highly skilled Construction Estimator with a minimum of 5 years of experience at a General Contractor or Construction Management firm. The ideal candidate is a strategic thinker who excels at conceptual estimating and design-gate development. While we focus less on traditional "bottoms-up" quantity surveying, you must be adept at evaluating complex estimates from third parties, performing high-level benchmarking, and leading reconciliation efforts to ensure project accuracy.

We will consider remote candidates who reside on the East Coast and are willing to travel intermittently.

Key Responsibilities

  • Estimate Development: Lead conceptual and design-gate estimates from early-stage ideas through developed design.
  • Analysis & Reconciliation: Critically evaluate, analyze, and question estimates provided by CM/GCs, architects, and third-party firms. Identify discrepancies and lead reconciliation calls to align multiple data sources.
  • Benchmarking: Utilize historical data to create project-specific benchmarks, investigating project details and adjusting variables within short timeframes.
  • Digital Quantification: Utilize On-Screen Takeoff (or similar digital software) for quantification when necessary.
  • Design Integration: Demonstrate a full comprehension of design drawings and specifications across various project phases.
  • Communication: Act as a central point of contact, communicating effectively with internal partners, CM/GCs, and external stakeholders.

Qualifications & Skills

  • Experience: 5+ years of estimating experience within a GC/CM environment.
  • Trade Knowledge: Strong proficiency in CSA trades (Civil, Structural, and Architectural disciplines).
  • Technical Systems (Preferred): Familiarity with MEPPS (Mechanical, Electrical, Plumbing, Sprinkler, and Process Piping) is a significant plus.
  • Technical Tools: Advanced proficiency in MS Excel and the MS Office Suite.
  • Independence: Proven ability to work effectively as an individual contributor and consistently meet tight deadlines.

Submission Requirements

To be considered for this role, candidates must complete an initial screening interview. Following the interview, you must provide:

  • A current resume.
  • A comprehensive Project List highlighting the specific projects you have estimated personally.
